A reader notes that the line for Blue Ribbon Chicken Fried Chicken on East First Street and Second Avenue is currently wrapped around the corner... the restaurant isn't officially ready for business yet, but it is rumored to be opening tonight maybe for service.
Per another reader who stopped by at lunchtime:
We pressed our faces against the window and watched the staff eat lunch, and talked to a staffer outside eating a delicious looking sandwich. He told us it may open for dinner tonight, but he's not sure. HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW?!

We haven't had fried chicken since Luther's on Ave J in Bklyn closed. If the prices are reasonable, I'll be excited to pick up a bucket. They do have buckets, right?
ReplyDeleteI went there today at 12:30 on a whim. The line was about 5 people outside, 5 ordering inside, about 10 seated eating. Once you made it past the door they discreetly indicated you could order whatever you want everything was free today so feel free to sample as much as you want and everything came with fries included. I had the 4 piece and and an order of the fried pickled green beans with a "mexican Sprite". It it seemed they were training everyone how to handle large orders very methodically. You can tell those in charge knew how to train employees so that when they have a hard opening it will be stellar rather than a cluster***. I applaud them.

Actually had the chicken there recently not knowing anything about its mythical status and thought it was SO. MEDIOCRE.

Ate there on Tuesday night. No guarantee of entry, but a few minutes spent in line paid off nicely. I applaud management on several counts: first, they're rigorously training staff and going through easily thousands of dollars each night in food and payroll to get the operation running smoothly. Props there. Second, the vibe in there felt good --- pretty relaxed, though that may have been helped by people getting a nice meal for free! I hope they don't crank up the music; the sound system was not on, which was fine. The food was really good. My order took a little over 10 minutes to come up, and everything was as it should have been (save for the fries, which were warm and fresh, but should come up hot --- no exceptions!). Tasty chicken, seasoned nicely and on the lean side. Huge bonus: the cole slaw was seriously refrigerated. How many times do you order something with slaw that comes out at, you know, room temperature? Blech! Not here, folks: Blue Ribbon served my helping from the ice box --- hizzah! I will definitely go back, in part because I love fried chicken, and in part because I owe 'em one. Good luck and bon appetit!
