    Cool! Looks like a female by the size of its thick ankles (a way to distinguish between males). Be prepared to see more Hawks pass through as fall migration picks up!

    She looked a bit ruffled and unkempt. I hope she's not ill. She was definitely eating some rat remains. I pray they don't put out rat poison in the park. Does anyone know?

    Philosophical Zombie, I wouldn't worry much about her rumpled appearance. She looks like she's probably molting.

    I don't know if they put poison out in this park. The Parks Dept. website should have contact info for TSP's manager to ask. Red-tails are protected by Federal Law (Migratory Bird Treaty Act) so Parks should not be putting out rat poison if Hawks are frequenting the park.

    Parks is definitely putting out poison, although maybe not as much as previously; as long as people keep feeding throwing out scraps of bread and bagels—as well as armloads of corn flakes—Parks needs to control the rat population.

    I say this based on the parents with children using the playgrounds who complained about the rats threatening their children's well-being.
