Mighty Quinn's opened in late December over on Second Avenue and East Sixth Street ... And Ryan Sutton at Bloomberg reports this afternoon that the barbecue spot run by a former hedge funder was named New York's best new restaurant by the Zagat survey. (The survey is based on the responses of 48,114 participants.)
Never been here ourselves. Perhaps you have?
I live nearby, and spent 8 years in Austin. The BBQ is legit, and I go there as much as my arteries can withstand.
ReplyDeleteAgree with above. It is the only true southern barbecue I've had in NYC (and boy have I looked!). Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby!
ReplyDeleteDisgusting. The scene is that of barbarians tearing meat off bones with their hands.
ReplyDeleteHill Country is about the same, but more geared toward sit down and bigger on the bubba-frills.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with barbarians tearing meat off of bones with their hands?
ReplyDeleteBest new restaurant? Meh. I wasn't really impressed with Quinn's. If you want good BBQ, go to Hill Country on 26th.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 4:10: Vegetarian, are you?
ReplyDeleteI've been several times and it's fine, but really, nothing spectacular, even in terms of barbeque in NYC. And best new restaurant in the city? A joke.
Thanks for the tip. (See you at Angelica Kitchen, Caravan of Dreams, or John's for the vegan menu.)
ReplyDeleteThe answer is unrealizable, as in if it's true and this restaurant (please don't call this an eatery, or any other restaurants an eatery) is great and the best new NYC restaurant, then it just confirms that the EV is now the new South or Austin. And if it's not true or this place does not deserve the accolade, then it's just another trendeatery catering to the moneyed transients trying to be make it in the EV. Either way, the EV is a lost cause, which has been a lost cause for a while now anyhow.
ReplyDeleteGood grief @5:22... So sour! As BBQ goes in the city... MQ is the best deal for the quality and a great addition to the hood, even for an old timer who hates change.

ReplyDeleteReally? Moist brisket at Hill Country, almost as good as any you'll find in Lockhart.
"Disgusting. The scene is that of barbarians tearing meat off bones with their hands."
ReplyDeleteIs there anything more insufferable than a pretentious vegetarian/vegan? Almost makes you agree with Tony Bourdain's general stance on vegetarianism.
I think Hill Country's moist brisket is better but only just.
ReplyDeleteMighty Quinn's wins in the ribs stakes and the fact its two blocks away!
"Is there anything more insufferable than a pretentious vegetarian/vegan?"
ReplyDeleteYes. A person slurping away at an animal carcass.
There is nothing pretentious about being a vegetarian or a vegan. It is a healthy choice, especially for women; eating meat, especially meat that is full of hormones, is a bad health idea. That's for moi.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your meats! More for you!
"The survey is based on the responses of 48,114 participants"
ReplyDeleteMaybe the same participants that ranked NYC as the fourth city to have the best pizza and San Diego as to be the city to have best pizza, ie tourists. But if Artichoke is opening another outlet, then maybe NYC deserves to have the 4th ranking.
Anyway, bring on more limos and SUVs with CT, NJ, MA, OH, MI, PA, and suburban NY plates. EV is the new midtown after all. Difference is, EV is mostly residential and midtown commercial. But hey, enjoy your ribs (and Artichokes), folks.
They should rename this eatery -- sorry, Anon 5:22, I mean "trendeatery" -- Mighty de Blasio's. Then I might consider going there.
ReplyDeleteMighty Quinn's food is OK if you don't mind the fat. Hill Country's cuts are a bit leaner, I think. Wildwood and Virgil's are both tastier, but more expensive. They'll all do in a pinch when the Big Apple BBQ festival isn't in town.
ReplyDeleteWoo! Midtown South!
