  1. This squirrel lover is appalled at how hawks are allowed in NYC parks.

  2. They aren't "allowed" in NYC parks. They live in them just like the other raptors you may not have noticed do; Kestrels, Peregrine Falcons, Merlins, Cooper's Hawks, Sharp-shinned Hawks, etc. They all live here in the city. I've seen all of these in our park trees and perched on buildings.

They have lived here for eons, longer than this city has been here, and will continue to live and breed and migrate through this area long after we are dead.

In fact, it's migration season now and this youngster in the photos may not be one of the City's Hawk babies but a kiddo from further up north taking a break from the fall migration south.

But I digress. This bird eating a squirrel is in perfect harmony with nature.

People who obsess over squirrels and pigeons and can't stand it when Hawks eat them because they don't seem to understand that this is NATURE and certain species happen to live on others.

It's when squirrels are hand-fed peanuts and pigeons are fed bread and seeds when nature is thrown out of balance.

  4. The hawks should be restricted to dining on the unwanted rats. If a hawk attacks a defenseless squirrel it should be arrested and deported. It's ridiculous that some people spout off about "nature" this and "nature" that without understanding that the squirrels also have basic rights. They are much cuter than the hawks also and therefore more likely to raise property values in the area. Did you know that squirrels can find nuts that they buried in numerous places around the park land, they actually remember where they buried their nuts. Can you do the same, Nature Boy? No, I didn't think so.

And here's a little something for you to read, Hawk Boy:

Grey squirrels remember the locations of buried nuts
