"I walked two feet out of my apt on St. Marks and already a guy with a group of Santa pals says what cute tails to the dogs then looks at me and says "I gotta get a tail by the end of the night." Then without any response from me he says "huh huh. She knows what I'm talking about" ... One guy yells out "not very good Santa costumes" to my dogs. Already!" — Chloe Sweeney McGlade via Facebook

NUMBNUTS ON PARADE!!!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable. I can't believe these pigs are able to walk around basically dressed in disguise harassing people.
ReplyDelete""huh huh. She knows what I'm talking about"
ReplyDeleteBromeggedon.
I can't decide! which is douchier behavior? SantaConners who go all out with elaborate costumes or the SantaConners who just top their civies with a lame Santa hat?
ReplyDeleteAnybody?
What a bunch of obnoxious loud douchebags.
ReplyDeleteI live near 12th and A where alot of this bullshit is taking place. In this weather there's going to be alot of ill people in the next week. I saw one girl who looked like she was just wearing pajamas and slippers that were all soggy from brown slush. Pneumonia or bronchitis anybody? Good luck with that. This kinda shit would've never taken place here a generation ago. Whatever happened between now and then is a good question for sociologists AND psychologists.
At least there are cops around on patrol. Thanks have to go out to NYPD for their common sense and looking out for the community.
I blame Andy Warhol.
ReplyDelete- East Villager
I get the feeling most of the people complaining are jealous to see people out having a good time. The weather is terrible, it's a good time to stay inside anyhow. No need to go out and be offended by drunk people in the East Village.
ReplyDeleteWatching a bunch of animals set free from their cubicle farm drinking this week's paycheck away so, even for a fleeting moment, they can forget how miserable their little lives are while catching a few STDs in the process isn't making me jealous. Promise.
ReplyDeleteTo me this is no different than any of the other EV distractions: Halloween, St. Pattys [or other saintly excuse to get drunk], WigStock [or any of the other TSP music for me but not for thee fairs]
ReplyDeleteMy 'decrepit' old 44yo body [43 of them spent pretty much on St Marks Hell ] was able to navigate the streets just fine on foot and even on a CityBike [because I like biking on the first snowfall & I'm stupid like that -good exercise tho-]...
Didn't like being called 'Sir' by all the younglings in regards as to where this bar is, or that bar... but I guess that comes along with being 'decrepit' & and I was a young one myself once .. ;)
I guess I'm in the minority in agreeing with Anony@7:05p
look i think these people are douchebags but let me tell you something. i lived in the EV through the bros moving in. i lived in the EV through the yuppies before them. i lived in the EV through the artists and eccentrics and i lived in the EV through the crack/heroin dealers and the people they poisoned. i recall an evening watching from my kitchen as a young man shot another young man in the head point blank on the sidewalk. i will take some drunken, spoiled affluent children over that any day. much ado about nothing.
ReplyDeleteand as much as i love this site and vanishing ny as well, i feel that what you all and myself are lamenting for is not a local change; it is a life change. society has become vapid. it is not limited to our little corner of the world.
happy holidays from the peaceful, snowy enclave of astoria
Defending Bro culture is defending the indefensible.
ReplyDeletethese people are absolutely disgusting vile pieces of shit who do not live here. and the ones that do, should be ashamed. my girlfriend was called a bitch because we got in a cab we were waiting for way before them. this is not rooted in tradition like st. pattys. i can at least somewhat excuse st. pattys because of that.

ReplyDeleteDon't think so…
First, this Santacon business does not look like 'fun' to me…at all. I've lived in NYC for almost 30 years, 20 of those in the E. Village, I'm in my late 40s. Trust me, I had my fun. If anybody should be jealous it should be these people. I don't see anything exciting about doing a pub crawl in a Santa costume. 25 years ago when I was their age..yeah, I would've felt the same way. Back then I couldn't even imagine somebody bringing the idea up, it would've never seen the light of day. I might be older than this crowd but it seems to me they take less advantage of their youth than maybe previous generations did. If this is somebody's idea of fun, well…whatever.
This fun for those who like to take advantage of inebriated women, where otherwise they can't get any attention from them.
ReplyDeleteThe city has turned into a dorm. Thanks Bloomie. I remember the LES when it was gritty. Santa would have been dead.
