Moonstruck Diner temporarily closed for 'operating illegally'

The city closed the Moonstruck Diner yesterday over on Second Avenue and East Fifth Street... no one was around the diner to ask about the infraction ... as we've seen along here, the infractions are typically quite minor...

ReplyDeleteNo it doesn't. It proves that if you're doing something illegal, you're going to have repercussions. Surprisingly, that's the case all across the country!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have any idea as to the reasons for Moonstruck's abrupt closure? There is nothing available yet on the city's health-code violations website. They got an 'A' following their last inspection in April of 2013. Losing them would be a drag. It was always a convenient place to get an omelet or a bowl of soup for me.
ReplyDeleteA few of years ago, they had to close due to some issues with the built-out area on 5th St being deemed illegal (although it was there before they took over the business). Not sure if this could be related, but I hope they reopen. The tables along 5th St are a great place to eat, read and people-watch.
ReplyDeleteI think Googla is right-on. Before it was Moonstruck, it was the Cooper Diner (and before that, the Cooper Square restaurant across the street).
ReplyDeleteThe build-out onto 5 Street was done by Cooper Diner when the place was remodeled. It could very well be illegal, and if so, bad news. That's a major build-out and awfully hard to remove without wrecking the restaurant.
What is it with this city? There's so much noise in the neighborhood, speeding cars crashing onto sidewalks, and over-liquoring, and they go after a reasonable, old-school diner?
Moonstruck is open again. Just walked by and saw people eating inside.
