Residents want 7-Eleven to shovel (and salt) their sidewalks on A and 11th
As you may have noticed, it snowed — a lot — on Tuesday … late into the night… And now it's just cold, icy, miserable (mostly!). Meanwhile, residents who live around the newish 7-Eleven on Avenue A and East 11th Street are annoyed that the sidewalks surrounding the store haven't been shoveled or salted… The photos here are from last night…
… one resident said that the East 11th Street side is particular hazardous.

The worst is always the sidewalk out front of the rundown building on the corner of 10th and 4th ave.
ReplyDeleteTaking photos of the mess is all fine and good but did anyone SPEAK with an employee or the manager about it? And what was the response? Come on, people!
ReplyDeleteCall 311 & they will get a ticket.
ReplyDeleteThe management company for Kushner's buildings is at 504 East 12th Street if anyone wants to complain to them. It's that first floor real estate office.
ReplyDelete311 - they have 24 hours to clean after a storm I believe, of course, if the right wingers are to be listened to, they need to clean keep the sidewalk clean from the first flake forward, flake being the operative word here
ReplyDeleteAAnon. 8:23 - Here is what I said in an earlier comment that I posted last night: "I went into the 7-11 on 11th and A tonight and told the two clueless bimbos working behind the counter that they needed to call someone higher-up and get their sidewalks shoveled; they were the only business that still had snow-covered walkways. They didn't shovel during the last storm, either."
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, the women both looked at me like I was covered in green paint and speaking Urdu and then went on chatting with each other.
So I went home and called 311.
Why is it the minimum wage slaves responsibility to do anything except to do the least to collect the least? Give them a break.
DeleteOh and nygrump, the sidewalk is STILL not shoveled. They just don't bother, so please stop defending them. Let them take some of that corporate money and hire a local to shovel for 10 bucks an hour.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know a good shyster lawyer?
ReplyDeleteSynagogue on Clinton only shovels when there are services. They don't give a crap about the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteYou can't talk to these 7-Eleven workers because they'll retaliate.
ReplyDeleteThey are still messing with businesses in the neighborhood.
WHERE TO BEGIN! ULTIMATE SAUSAGE NEST FOR D-BAG FRATBOYS!!! SLIP HOS DATE RAPE DRUGS AND DRAG THEIR LIMP BODIES INTO ONE OF SIX AWESOME BEDROOMS!!! THEN JUST THROW THEM OFF YOUR AMAZING ROOF DECK! WATCH OUT BELOW!! CONVENIENT TO 7-11 TO PICK UP CLEANING SUPPLIES TO COVER UP THE EVIDENCE AND BARS TO UNWIND AFTER!! LET'S SEE IT!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete311's good.
ReplyDeleteThere's also this: Corporate Headquarters/Store Support Center: 7-Eleven, Inc. One Arts Plaza 1722 Routh St., Suite 1000. Dallas, TX 75201. Main Phone Number: 972-828-7011.
I am such a knucklehead! Wrong thread!
ReplyDeleteOMG! There must be a... a... a quarter inch of snow there!
ReplyDeleteGojira at 9:49pm, Do you know how many cranks they must deal with in a day? What do you think a waiter would do if you went into a restaurant and told him to shovel the sidewalk?
ReplyDeleteDon't forget, during the Hurricane Sandy blackout, the bodegas opened without electricity and led customers around with flashlights to buy food, water, supplies.
ReplyDeleteThe franchises like 7-11 and Starbucks stayed closed, likely due to a memo from corporate.
I walked by there after reading this story, and the entire stretch of Avenue A, down to Horus, is unshovelled.
ReplyDeleteDefending a 7 Eleven? Really? After being caught running into hifi, starting shit and screaming racism? After covering the bathroom of TSB with paint? Really? You are FUCKING defending them?
ReplyDeleteThe owner of HiFi is on record as saying: "Please note that I never said that 7/11 or its employees were harassing me or my bar. They have done nothing of the kind. ... I complained to at least one N7E person about their characterization of what I wrote. ..." And their isn't even a shred of evidence that a 7-Eleven employee vandalized TS Bagels. It's really irresponsible to make these charges.
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few businesses and large apartment buildings in the 'hood that never shovel -- might make an interesting photo report come next snow
ReplyDeleteHere is the phone number of the landlord, Westminster, if you'd like to complain directly 212-533-2224. Also, you can find Jared kushner, the owner, on twitter @jaredkushner
ReplyDelete@SMDH The owner of Hi-Fi is also on record as saying
ReplyDelete"Surveillance footage shows this individual, dressed in a blue hoodie and pink/purple down vest, walking directly from the direction of the 7/11 entrance on the opposite side of Avenue A. When confronted yesterday (Monday), the workers inside the store insisted that they that they had nothing to do with it, yet their reaction to being “accused” suggested that they might have known more about it than they let on."
It doesn't take a degree in criminal psychology to draw the conclusion the 7-Eleven employees had something to do with these acts and it's obvious Mike from Hi-Fi is implying the same thing, not so much in between the lines.
It's strange the people being harassed are the same ones dialing back their statements. Pick a side.
The 7 11 employees may not be dashing from behind their registers and doing the dirty deeds themselves, but they are without a doubt orchestrating it. The people doing the harassing are seen coming and going from the 7 11 around the times the harassment is taking place. None of the harassment, now add destruction of property, took place until after these employees started working there. Do the math.
ReplyDelete"The owner of HiFi is on record as saying: "Please note that I never said that 7/11 or its employees were harassing me or my bar. They have done nothing of the kind. ... "
ReplyDeleteThat's why Mike from Hi-Fi went in there and angrily questioned them??? If he didn't think they were guilty, why didn't he run into Westville and question them? Or Tompkins Square Bagels and question their employees?
He felt confident enough the 7 11 employees had some responsibility, enough to write a long blog post about it calling for a truce.
If you don't want to believe him, then don't. Your position requires faith above evidence, in any case.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 12:10am, It's true that it doesn't take a degree in criminal psychology to draw the conclusion you drew. In fact, it probably helps to not have one! On the other hand, someone with such a degree would probably not draw that conclusion.
Gojira, certainly I don't defend 7/11, just pointing out that not everything happens immediately, per the law. It should be cleaned by now. This storm was ridiculous, the NY POst had their headline ready probably for weeks, before the storm even started. I heard not one mention of the Bloomberg stormwhere peoplein the burroughs waited days to get plowed even once, while he was off in bermuda, but now suddenly the streets are supposed to be clear through out a storm. Its snow. I'm kind of tired of seeing the waste of resources on this shit. I notice how effing lazy these businesses are. For instance, neither Souen or Spice Cove would sweep away the 2 foot wide space that leads to our door, even though thats where all their customer hang out and smoke, in our doorway. The businesses are carpetbaggers, here to blight the neighborhood and make money for themselves.
ReplyDeleteshmnyc,
ReplyDeleteI would appreciate if you didn't quote my obviously sarcastic comments as an example of community opinion.
You even base an entire post around a comment so obviously facetious that only the unhinged would think otherwise.
The corporate owned 7 Eleven has the money to hire a competent manager to make sure the sidewalks are shoveled, especially since this location is so polarizing. It's basic business. It snows, shovel your sidewalks. No one is asking them to build an awning or install a heating system. Stop lowering the bar for the "poor 7 Eleven" workers. Yes, they can shovel a sidewalk, it's not like they're busy with customers...
ReplyDelete"Why is it the minimum wage slaves responsibility to do anything except to do the least to collect the least?"
ReplyDeleteBecause it's the law.
Those poor 7-Eleven workers! They suffer so! They have to stock food and sell cigarettes and stare at the wall! Please have mercy and don't ask them to shovel! Let's keep coddling the babies so they have no motivation to better themselves and get a better job where they'll earn more money and perhaps even have benefits. Yes, pitying them is really the best thing we can do.
ReplyDeleteThe Hi-Fi blog post titled "7/11 Fights Back" insinuated 7/11 wasn't responsible?
ReplyDeleteI'd suggest a (or another) conversation with the manager. The type of employee that would orchestrate something like that would also be the type of employee that would let their friends steal something(s) as a reward for their efforts.
ReplyDeleteBy law, property owners must clear their sidewalks within four hours after the snow has stopped, but if the snow ends after 9 p.m., they have until 11 a.m. the next day to shovel.
ReplyDeleteSurprised that that they weren't ticketed

As for 7-11, it is becoming more aggressive with its expansion in Manhattan offering amenities such as a KeyMe kiosk and Amazon Lockers, as well as offering bodegas and delis to convert stores into a 7-11 and keep 75% of the profits http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20140126/RETAIL_APPAREL/301269982/7-eleven-woos-a-tough-crowd.
