Workers removing trees from the Jacob Riis and Lillian Wald Houses

Workers are currently pruning or cutting down trees this morning at the Jacob Riis Houses and Lillian Wald Houses along Avenue D…

A worker told Dave that they are removing all the ones marked with an X. And they all seem to be marked with an X… especially here on East 10th Street between Avenue D and the FDR…

Said the worker: "Sandy messed 'em up."

  2. This is sad and bad for people who live there. Those "houses" are bleak enough as it is especially in the landscaping dept. Are they really dead/beyond hope??

  3. I thought it was Stuy Town. They cut down all the trees in there too.

  4. They seem to have started on the removal last week (at Riis at least, not sure about Wald and Baruch), and the orange 'X's are prominent from across the FDR as you travel south through East River Park. A sad loss of old growth trees, but the London Planes were really hard hit by the surge water during Sandy. I've been wondering what will become of the Planes that line 14th St. between B & C. They were obviously distressed last spring, and I don't have high hopes that they will bounce back this year either. What a difference a tree makes, and how sad it is when they are gone.

  5. ...and they cut down all the tress at Astor Place...take this in tandem with the destruction of the oceans from FUKUSHIMA, the seemingly weekly water table destruction event in WV and NC and PA and it really does start to look like certain humans are trying to make the planet unliveable. It is all related.

  8. Stuy Town is no longer the only bulldozed swamp. What's going on! They're antagonizing, not organizing! Petition!

  9. Organize? Here's something to organize. Make a couple phone calls to the appropriate contacts, to find out what's going on.

  13. It's time to organize for what??
... so that a tree that needs to be removed isn't and then a branch or worse the whole tree falls on someone and kills them?
Organize yourself with the trash surrounding the trees in the pics and other real problems in the nabe; don't torture arborist who don't want to remove these trees but need to

  14. Sandy, and Verizon, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin repeater, transmitters, antennas, electrocuting trees, and life 24/7 daily. Dead and dying. Radiation poisoning.

  15. @ ShutUpHooker

Ignore her. She posts the same kind of annoying shit on 2 or 3 Stuy Town blogs.
