A tipster tells us that the Dunkin' Donuts at 520 E. 14th St. is on the move… heading east toward Avenue B a few storefronts away … to the former home of La Isla Restaurant, which closed in July 2012…

Gino DiGirolamo's Royal Tailor shop at No. 520 is closing on May 31. Gino is retiring after 50 years in business. A bit of a forced retirement given that the landlord was doubling his rent here.
In other Dunkin' Donuts news … as we reported on Friday, a DD is taking the former Norman's Sound & Vision storefront at 67 Cooper Square.

I love donuts!
I'm sure it's been mentioned before on EVG, but East 14th St (and its environs) was once home to tens of thousands of Sicilian immigrants. I can trace my NY roots (on both sides) straight back to this block.
I am guessing it's bye-bye 520 as we know it. Bye-bye, lovely little building with warm brick and nice stone accents and history and charm, hello yet more featureless cheesy-looking "luxury" featuring shops no one wants or needs or could afford to shop in.
@Anon. 9:14 - my uncle's "godfather" - in the Marlon Brando sense - used to live on Avenue A between 10th and 11th Streets...
Huh. Was there bad feeling towards the Pugliese immigrants a few blocks to the south around 1st Avenue? (Di Robertis is a remnant of that.)
Suburbanites luuuurv Dunkin' Donuts and gotta have that Coolatta. And don't forget to give their receipts.
Awww, Rats!
(literally )
