There was some doggy drama early this evening in Tompkins Square Park. Per witnesses, this Siberian Husky named Winter chased after a tennis ball — and got his head stuck under a fence.
FDNY Engine 28/Ladder 11 from East Second Street arrived to help.
All was well afterwards.
@evgrieve they used the jaws of life and the crowd cheered when it got free. So crazy!

Thanks to EVG reader Alta Tseng for the photos.
Thanks to the FDNY for helping that poor dog! Nice job! I am glad he or she is okay.
ReplyDeleteDamn, you'd think if they can use JOL to bend a fence one way, then they can use JOL to bend the fence back the other way again.
ReplyDeleteWell was not there, but he does not even seem to have the wedge-shaped noggin that is like a fishhook once in not coming out, say a pitbull or even a jack russel. In any case looks happy to be free, but I could have just greased that skull got the ears out of the way and pulled him out backwards like a calf out of a cow, one big mooooo and off to the races.
ReplyDeleteBest grease for that job is bear fat of course but margarine will do the trick too.
Just so's you all know for next time.
They tried oil thats why dogs neck looks all wet. Its grease n oil.
DeleteAll that for a dog?
ReplyDeleteI hope The City of New York sends the bill to that animal's owner, oh, sorry... caretaker.
To the previous poster, who complained all that for a dog... Yup. Think of all the things dogs do for people, sniffing out bombs, serving as guide dogs for people. We owe them! ;)

ReplyDeleteyou're an asshole.
Anon 9:57 glad the effort was made to help Winter the dog it would be really upsetting to learn they did it for you
ReplyDeleteI don't agree that a bill should be sent to anyone for the use of public services.

ReplyDeleteI've seen the city send 2 people to the park near my house to rescue a pigeon in a tree which got tangled in a string from a helium balloon. They spent a couple of hours but failed because they could not reach the bird or cut it free. No living thing should suffer stuck like that. At least now the rats will not have to duck when running under this part of the fence.
ReplyDeleteStupid balloons.
