Mogador is, arguably, the truest culinary expression of what was once called a modern East Village restaurant. It's hip, laid back, and older than it seems (it opened in 1983), but it's also vibrant.
The food still works too. "The café serves ultra-reliable Mediterranean fare from breakfast through dinner."
All of which reminds me that I haven't been here in a very long time.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites in the neighborhood. If you sit outside, you can enjoy the ambient noise of CitiBike customers repeatedly slamming their bikes into broken docks.
ReplyDeleteImpossible to walk on the sidewalk during weekend brunch hours, can a place be too popular? The good part is this is not a "foodie" place but it is not a stop by and have a bite place either unless you wish to wait a long time. I like the food but have not been here in a few years when it got so busy.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't eaten here in years and tried it again this summer and wondered why I had stayed away. The food is great. It does get crowded on weekends, so it is best to go during the week.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite breakfast place in the EV. Lived right across from it (above Dumpling Man) and here is the deal: on weekends, you need to showup before 10:30 or 11. Like clockwork, the "woo" crowd shows up between 11 and 12. If you get there early, you're generally one of only a few and you can actually enjoy your expertly made espresso drink, eggs and labne and relax.

ReplyDeleteThere's a reason why you and others haven't been there for a long time, you have outgrown the "vibrancy" of it. It's the newbies turn now to be hip to this place.
