This will take a little time to get used to

The central part of Tompkins Square Park without the shade of the leaning elm…

Of course the Hare Krishna Tree is still a sight…

  1. All sympathies to everyone who loved this tree.....I've been on the losing end of a couple of "save-the-tree" battles. Not fun.
And considering the history of this tree, and the last couple of days activities, there's probably a good documentary in here somewhere, relating to all the changes ripping through NYC.

But we all know what would happen to that earnest effort once it advanced to the nitty-gritty stage of funding.
It's movie of the week territory :

    "50 Shades of Bendy-Tree"
Naturally bending the story-line towards the erotic encounters under (and in) the tree.

    "Bendy-Tree : MD"
Incredibly handsome NY-born doctor falls in love with incredibly beautiful female crusty (from Arkansas WalMart-money); and sets up a free clinic under the tree. Ensuing hatred and love from the 'hood. Purchase nearby walk-up for new clinic, thereby both assisting those in need, while contributing to super-gentrification process by adding three floors for their personal play/penthouse.

    "SuperRay : The Bendy-Tree Caper"
Ray slurps down one of his secret-formula egg-creams ; changes into SuperRay (complete with locally-designed and manufactured oh-so-chic cape/belt/boots outfit) ; and flies off to battle DeBlandio Man and his massive bureaucratic minions. (SuperRay Girl sidekick also a possibility.)

Sooo, maybe no documentary to start the process :+) Somebody just write a cool poem recounting some of the good, and the bad, that this tree would have seen. The only thing remotely good that will come out of this is the smiles as you remember it for all your life.

  3. I know this won't be a popular point of view, but I think the bendy elm being gone makes the other elm look much nicer.

  6. Companions for so long, and now the one lonely elm seeks for its decades-long friend, only to find empty space. Sigh.

  7. Do people remember Bob's funeral, from the end of "My Own Private Idaho"? Something festive like that would be fun, but all this crying and praying is turning my stomach.
