Reader report: The Cock won't be moving into Idle Hands

As previously noted, The Cock was looking to move from Second Avenue to 25 Avenue B, into the current home of Idle Hands.

This item went before CB3's SLA committee on Monday night.

Several EVG readers in attendance noted that Allan Mannarelli, an owner of The Cock, decided to withdraw the application when it became clear that the committee was going to issue a denial. Several residents apparently spoke out against the application, including members of the East 4th Street A/B Block Association.

We understand the fact that he was a managing member of the quaint former establishment called Superdive wasn't lost on residents.

Paperwork on file with CB3 (PDF!) showed that The Cock was planning on taking both floors of the Idle Hands space. No word on what might happen next to Idle Hands.

    Seems like a pretty homophobic attitude to me. There are disgustingly slutty straight people all over Avenue B on the weekends, but god forbid we let a place called "The Cock" move there.

    I am sort of with 5:50PM - I do not want more bars in the hood but that block is full of party douche wads. The cock would probably been tame by comparison, and anyway, I would much rather deal with gay dudes than bro's n ho's.

    When The Cock was on Avenue A it was a nightmare. Nothing homophobic about it, just a poorly managed bar in terms of noise control.

    And the owner is a prick. He controlled access to the basement. A nightmare sea of trash and empty boxes. He'd never let ConEd in to read the meters, so they'd be forced to estimate our bills, always overestimating of course. And once when my boyfriend needed to change a fuse down there, he wouldn't let him in and wanted to fight him first. Crazy, and a terrible neighbor.

    I am a straight lady and the Cock, when it was on 12th and A, was a safe place for me. I admit that maybe I'm not the best person to judge its noisiness (I live diagonally, not above or next to it), but the Cock doorpeople and bouncers and bartenders looked out for me when I was coming home from work every night at at 2 a.m. Flow Rider was my guardian angel.
