Nike's Zoom City SNKRS Station ready to sell sneakers on the Bowery

Workers arrived last Wednesday to erect a pop-up shop/stage on the Bowery at Great Jones… we took a few more photos in subsequent days…

It's all for Nike … a Zoom City SNKRS Station — one of eight Nike shops erected around the city as part of the NBA All-Star game weekend in NYC.

Here's a description of the Station via the Zoom City website:

The ultimate destination to pick up the latest in Nike sneakers. Performance and style take over at the Zoom City SNKRS Station.

Located at 348 Bowery (at Great Jones Street), the Zoom City SNKRS Station will feature exclusive Nike footwear, apparel and accessories.

The Zoom City SNKRS Station will be open tomorrow through Sunday.

Oh, and you just can't walk up here and shop — you need to make a reservation via the Zoom City website.

And maybe this is what the box will ultimately look like? (One of the 50 workers standing around said that it will be a Nike shoebox shape…)



Regardless, it's quite a production…





This corner space previously housed the Deth Killers of Bushwick pop-up shop. Before its life as a pop-up space, the corner was home of the Downtown Auto & Tire until April 2012.

    Well as I guess if all this is for shopping then it's worth all the trouble because we don't got enough shopping options in this town.

    Man, I hope these Nikidiots are ready for the onslaught of Bowery Mission customers. Those folks are very particular about Puttin' On The Ritz....I mean, after all, those $100 Carmelo Anthony jerseys are to die for.... and they are ALWAYS looking for that new pair of $200 sneakers. Just in time for the upcoming Spring Bowery Mission Fashion Fabfest too!

    I just passed thru Flatiron where there is a huge performance stage being set up in the triangle between Broadway and 5th. Apparently Kayne West is scheduled to do a pre all-star game concert there. Fuck everyone.

    Does Nike still employ slave labor from the third world to make their $200 and up sneakers which cost $10 a pair to make because of that slave labor?

    Do wannabe skatepunk/b-boy herbs still buy them like stocks because they can't make money from creating something? Buy them only to collect them for what purpose? Always have a fresh pair of kicks like a fresh pair of underwear?

    There is no need to have more retail outlets for Nike because of this thing called the internet, two Nike Town in Manhattan, and countless non-NT sneaker stores including Foot Locker.

    This thread just proved one thing...People (commentators I'm assuming are from EV) in the east village all have their panties up in a bunch deep in their assholes.

    It looks awesome, its a pop up store forgodsake, I do not see what the big deal is.

    You guys rather have your pop up hummus and guacamole shops huh?

    Maybe they could bring some shoes and jackets down to the Bowery Mission? They are going to be overwhelmed the next few days with the cold. This is prob too much to ask though.

    It looks idiotic. More fitting would be a gigantic display of all exploited sweatshop workers.
    People should be upset that this wasteful crap is taking up space. Ah but the only thing the lemmings that flock to Bowery get outraged about is when they max-out all their credit cards.
    The Bowery is an outdoor mall for zombie addict-shoppers and people that can't walk with civility.
