Organic omnivore, vegetarian or vegan restaurant wanted at 12 St. Mark's Place
Hanjoo recently closed at 12 St. Mark's Place (the owners have designs on a new space on East Sixth Street).
Meanwhile, this sign appeared outside No. 12 to entice any potential restaurateurs who want to give this space a whirl…
Not sure if this is a legit request.
As noted previously, Hanjoo opened here between Second Avenue and Third Avenue in October 2012… and it seemed poised to stop the recent revolving door that included Hirai Mong, Gama, San Marcos, Siren and @Cafe. The address was also once home to the St. Mark's Bookshop.

That sign is on the outside (I can see the tape line on the bottom) which means it was put there by someone who didn't have access to the inside, therefore, not the landlord. Right?
ReplyDeleteIt's ironic that a landlord would want a vegetarian restaurant since most landlords are pure carnivores who would eat their young if it were allowed.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably someone who remembers the days when there were a lot of "alternative" vegetarian restaurants. Sadly, there are none left. They probably also don't want another place where they'll get their pork pulled.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of places in the EV where one can, well, get their pork pulled. LOL
ReplyDeleteI believe that the landlord here is a well-known EV landlord (of long duration). I would love to know what the monthly rental is for this space. I have always felt that the layout worked against the success of the restaurants that have occupied it. I imagine that the rental is $$$$$ and the problem is how do you cover that per month and cover the enormous expenses of a large restaurant.
ReplyDeleteThis block is for tourists only who hope to see some gritty punk EV. A non-gimmick or chain restaurant would fail here in a matter of months.
