I see the concept of adding more comfortable seats never occurred to them.
ReplyDeleteDear Saints Alp, Moonstruck Diner (5th/2nd), and Stromboli's (StM/1st):
ReplyDeleteWhat were you thinking with your choice of tabletops? Your glass and/or metal is the worst thing to subject your diners arms and warm beverages/entrees to.
Just feels like you're giving us the bum's rush from the moment we sit down.
And extra points to Moonstruck for making us sit in those horrible metal booths. I always feel like I'm going to be electrocuted. That place feels freezing 365 days a year. Put some padding on those seats!! If you need me I'll be over at Via Del Pace (7th/2nd). A place that knows all the meanings of the word "warmth".
What is up with all the high tables and stools in restaurants these days? I think it's a hot trend in suburbia in places like Applebee's and Red Lobster from what I've seen on TV ads. I have walked out of restaurants that don't have a real table with real dining chairs available. Does food taste better when you are sitting a foot higher?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't wait for Saint's Alp to reopen and went in yesterday. The tables and chairs are the same ones they had before, and while some people don't like backless chairs, they are authentic to the teahouse experience, so that's probably why they kept them. I have been going to Saint's Alp a few times a week for the last 10 years or so because a) I love bubble tea, and it is the best I have ever had, and I also like the relaxed environment, and the people who work there are cool. It's one of the few places left in the East Village where you can sit and have a cup of tea and a snack while you write and think. At least during the day during the week. It's busier on the weekends. A lot of the clientele is NYU students, but there are some older folks like me, too. In addition to the refreshed look, they have added some items to the menu, including chicken sliders. EV, this is CC, by the way!
ReplyDeleteAlso, to the poster who complained about high tables and chairs, these tables are not up high. You sit on a square stool with your feet planted firmly on the ground, which is good for me because I, too, don't like to balance on high chairs.--CC
ReplyDeleteSo glad to have St. Alps back! Best bubble tea in town and super friendly waitstaff.
