There have been lines here on East 14th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue (IHOP Way) pretty much all day.
Why?
Since beginning its National Pancake Day celebration in 2006, IHOP restaurants have raised almost $16 million to support charities in the communities in which they operate. On March 3, 2015, guests from around the country will celebrate a "Decade of Giving" with the tenth annual National Pancake Day at IHOP restaurants and enjoy a free short stack of Buttermilk pancakes. In return for the free pancakes, guests will be asked to consider leaving a donation for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals© or other designated local charities.

I have this urge right now, to Hulk smash that IHOP awning. Then when I'm done, I'll scream at everyone to get a fucking life.
ReplyDeleteI walked by a few minutes ago. Looked like a good number of high school of maybe college-age students, a group activity to get some free pancakes.
ReplyDelete16M, in 9 years, spread across the country, is dick money.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of moron do you have to be to stand on line for pancakes? WTF has happened to this once great neighborhood?
ReplyDeleteWOW that is sad. A stack of pancakes is, like, $2 and there are SO many places you can get that. Not to mention, local places. This just boggles my mind, these people are disgusting.
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love pancakes?
ReplyDeleteHow about skipping the line and donating to a charity. I don't people looking for anything "free" bring tipping money.
ReplyDeleteIt's like standing on line for garbage.
ReplyDeleteI'm torn between understanding this is for charity. So that is good. But it is very sad to see people's time spent on a long line on a weekday for a few pancakes you could make at home in a few minutes for a couple of dollars.
ReplyDeleteThe name of this dump definitely needs to be changed to I-DORK.
ReplyDeleteI bet they donate to the same charity as SantaCon! WOO!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the major differences in the younger generation, aside from their fatal dependence on handheld electronic gadgetry - they actually love standing on long lines. They probably look forward to it. Standing on line all day for mediocre foodstuffs is the new camping out overnight for concert tickets...
ReplyDeleteThat's right Gojira, we officially live in New Dork City!
ReplyDeleteYou can buy a small container of Bisquik and make four or more hearty, tasty, low cholesterol pancakes feeding two for around $4.
ReplyDeleteTrue story.
If the line at Trader Joe's is where announce to the world you can't pay full price for a can of kidney beans, what does this say?
ReplyDeleteIzF, Ha ha! New Dork City, that's funny.
ReplyDeleteGo Figment NYC!
ReplyDeleteI had a CT-Scan up at Union Square last week so I didn't have any breakfast and I was really looking forward to trying out the IHOP on 14th Street for the first time. In the lobby, I had to wait a minute for the hostess to take me to a cramped little table in a corner with no window (Are there any windows at that IHOP?). I told her I'd pass and walked down to Second Avenue to Little Poland where I had eggs, bacon, Kasha with onions, english muffin, coffee and juice and a nice view of people walking by on the Avenue— $8.00 including tip.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of business pretends to throw a charity event by attracting people that can't afford to buy breakfast in a nasty corporate restaurant? Answer, one that wants to be considered relevant.
ReplyDeleteWhen's National Bacon Day?
ReplyDeleteI second what kopp said!
ReplyDeleteLP & Neptune, my magnets!
