put him in the east river with rocks around his neck!!
ReplyDeleteThere will never be sufficient security in East River Park. However a good 40% of the lighting was lost after Hurricane Sandy plunging large secretions of the promenade into complete darkness and the Parks Dept still has not replaced them. As for Tompkins Square Park. There is a growing number of Emotionally Disturbed Person (EDPs) identified by the precinct. When EDPs put their hands on park patrons, threaten or menace them with sticks, 2X4s golf clubs, etc, then they need to be removed from the park. I have stood by and watched the precincts consistently release these very disturbed individuals back into the park. We need a Community Board and a Councilwoman who will start taking these quality of life and park security issues seriously.
ReplyDeleteThere were more police patrols in the park yesterday. Hope they catch him soon.
ReplyDeleteGarret: Agreed that lighting and patrols need to be improved in parts of East River Park, but what happened in East River Park has NOTHING to do with Tompkins Square Park!! WATCH OUT before you call for a fucking police state in TSP -- we've been there and had to deal with it....
ReplyDeleteNot asking for a police state. But I am asking that when the police intercede because an emotionally disturbed person has accosted someone in the park, that folks don't start screaming "police state" either. As was exactly the case this weekend. People can be as crazy as they want to be. But they can not lay their hands on other people, menace them, threaten them or otherwise assault or garb them.
DeleteDanger is still around despite all the new condo buildings, bike lanes, high end shops, and abundance of newly planted trees. Young people moving to NYC has false sense of security now that we are no longer considered a "dangerous" city. The city will never be able to predict a horrible violent crime like this one nor reach and treat all those responsible so it is upon us to be aware of our surroundings, use common sense when in area's off hours and desolate such as this park. Don't run listening to music when you are alone, look over your shoulder or just stay out of empty parks after dark.
ReplyDeleteThank you anonymous 9:30 for those key words. Be aware of your surroundings. You're in a city rife with opportunists. If you want to run in the park, that's your absolute right. Let's not blame the victim for doing something she has probably done a million times. Just be aware... Take proper precautions.
