Brown and out on East 13th Street

An EVG reader, with perhaps a hint of disappoint in his email, noted that we hadn't, uh, noted the ongoing graffiti v. brown-paint battle along Verizon's wall on East 13th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue in a really long time.

Sure enough, it has been nearly 15 months.

OK! So the wall still attracts various tags...

... and images...

...and whatever this was...

  1. Maybe if they didn't paint it shit brown it wouldn't get tagged so much. Or hire a muralist.

  2. DoT announced this morning that they're cutting their graffiti removal program due to budget cuts. Looking forward to graffiti all over those glassy, overpriced, ugly, "luxury" condos!

  3. That's some pretty clever graffiti (the kid painting).

  4. Why aren't the vandals arrested and forced to clean up their mess, along with a penalty of cleaning gum off the sidewalk for the Entire East Village?

  5. Gee 3:16pm I'm guessing the vandals did their graf without getting caught by the police/the police being around. That's when they usually hit walls.

  6. i live on this block and i must say, it's mind-boggling that Verizon hasnt tried to add to the culture of the neighborhood by hiring a muralist. while SOME a$$hole taggers do paint over murals (like the joe strummer one), most artists respect the work and leave it alone. it's a win-win. i strongly advocate that they consider this approach.
