An excerpt from Goodman:
We're always looking to find new things — We have our core theme, but we build around it. We keep layering on it and layering on it. We have our basics, and our basics are black skinny jeans and black motorcycle jackets. We're always going to have Beatle boots, and we're always going to have creepers. I know I'm going to sell more black leather and black suede Beatle boots then I'm going to sell green python Beatle boots, but I still need green python Beatle boots because they're so damn cool.

I really want the shop to succeed, but without the pictures, stickers, graffiti and grit of the St. Marks location, it feels more like a Hot Topic than anything else. Did they throw all that out? Why?
ReplyDeleteI walked by on Sunday and it was crowded! Good on 'em.
ReplyDeleteI think trying to rebuild years and years of stickers and grit on a new space's walls would come off inauthentic and Varvatosian. May it get age, bumper stickers and skank over the due course of time!
"Varvatosian"! Love it !
ReplyDeleteWe'll see how long it lasts. I think T&V would do better in Hoboken.
ReplyDeleteI think it's the beginning of the end for them, in a store that is. They'll continue online, but moving off St Mark's Place is, not the cause, but the symptom of their doom.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 12:46pm. Far less foot traffic plus how many people from out of town will know it has reopened around the corner? Also look at that area now. What other reason besides T&V would a T&V customer want to go down there? Compare down there now/2016 to 2006, 1996, and 1986 before you answer. Even 2006 was lick the balls.
