On my commute this morning I watched this truck crush a bicycle going north on Allen at Houston. The young woman riding it jumped clear & looked ok. The truck didn't stop. I chased it down & got the plate. I think the truck said EAN Holdings. Surely someone on here knows the lady who was riding that bike.

ReplyDeleteThat intersection is such a mess! The configuration of it changes every three days, plus, people and bikes going north or south have a different go signal from cars turning from the east side of the street and turning south from the west side, but not turning to the west onto Houston. The cars come at you full speed, and you both have the green light. It seems weird that they won't just add the extra light so it's not a giant game of chicken for pedestrians and bikers on the west side of the street.

ReplyDeleteIn an accident like this, especially a hit and run, get a photo of the plate then call 911 and report the accident. Go back to the site of the incident and wait for the police. They can then make a report and track down the plate. Without a 911 call they will do nothing about the incident. I know, I ride bikes and motorcycles.

ReplyDeleteMy daily commute home is riding East on Houston and it scares the crap out of me every day. There are sections where it merges to one lane with concrete dividers, and there is always some asshole who tries to pass me there, even when traffic is at a crawl. I had some guy actually run me into the barricade to move up 15 feet to where the car ahead of him was stopped. Houston from Bowery to Orchard (including the cross streets there) is a deathtrap.
