A seasonal Urban Etiquette Sign on 7th Street
An EVG reader passed along this photo of an Urban Etiquette Sign on Seventh Street between Avenue B and Avenue C... a sensible request not to throw firecrackers ... they scared the note-writer's dog... and are a potential fire hazard, she writes.

Wtf is wrong with people?
ReplyDeleteWhy would someone post this note publicly? Why not post it inside for the tenants of the building?
ReplyDeleteI LOL'd at the handwritten addition "What she said"
ReplyDeleteBut seriously. What 4:16 said. WTF is wrong with people
7:08am... its possible she doesn't live in the building where the fire crackers came from, especially if its shared space between buildings and it looks like she lives in 206 and its for 208.
ReplyDeleteBesides fireworks, the same should apply to throwing out lit ciggs and matches for those that HAVE to smoke by their open windows because they are asshats who feel the need to fuck everyone's breathing as well. I constantly find burned out cigs on my window sill and glad I have screens to keep them out.
I live near here and over the past few days there have been a ridiculous amount of fireworks and firecrackers going off at all hours of the day and night. it's impossible to tell exactly where they are coming from, but let me tell you walking down the street and hearing a ton a popping noises coming from seemingly all around you after what this country has experienced with shootings is not a fun feeling. i totally agree with this women - it's irresponsible and potentially very harmful, which is why shooting off fireworks as a private resident has been illegal in New York since 1940. i don't think this public note should be criticized.
ReplyDeleteThe note writer does not live in the building where the note was posted. I added the "what she said" note. These were not "firecrackers". These were m80's. They were litterally setting off bombs behind the building. And it wasn't the first time either. Total dickheads!
ReplyDeleteI can remember when booming blockbusters and M-80s were blowing up all day. That noise must have scared the hell out of pets, but back then no one cared about that, they just wanted to hear things blow up, the louder the better.
ReplyDeleteThis last weekend, I was in TSP when some of these things went off. Shook the ground and scared the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteThis happens every year as far back as I can remember. Usually starts a couple weeks before July 4th and continues a week or two after that. Thankfully I haven't seen any actual damage from it so far but it is hard on pets. Not sure how it could be stopped though. It's hard to pin down.
ReplyDeleteWell, then how do YOU propose to keep bad spirits away? Smudge sticks don't work on oni and are outright counterproductive when djinni are involved.
ReplyDeleteAlley not "ally".
ReplyDeleteOk, so I'm not going crazy! Been hearing what sounds like small explosions over the past week...
