The FDNY responded to a report of a fire on the northwest corner of 11th Street and Avenue C this morning just before 5, as several EVG readers pointed out...

Chris via Teamspider shared these videos... the first is at 4:53 a.m. before the FDNY arrived...
...and a few minutes later...
No word on the cause of the fire... and there doesn't appear to be much, if any, damage. The report did not make the @FDNYalerts account.

How can a fire escape catch on fire? I thought the whole point of having a fire escape is that it's the one thing that won't catch fire.
Probably started with a flicked cigarette on a planter. That's why it's illegal to put things on your fire escape!
I'm guessing someone decided to have a late night/early morning BBQ that got out of hand.
I'm guessing someone had a bad string of Christmas lights out there, you an see the flaming plastic dripping.
My downstairs neighbor has a propane grill on his fire escape and I know the people above me smoke on their fire escape all the time. It's like my life is a game of propane roulette.
