Workers had gutted the previous, rather nondescript (see below) 4-story brick building ... and added two new floors.
In total, there will be eight condos inside, per work permits filed with the city.
When the new development first revealed itself in 2011, it was named the rather jaunty Villa Capri, set to be ready in 2012. Not sure if that's still the name plan. We haven't seen any details about pricing or amenities for the new homes just yet.

ReplyDeleteI liked the old building better - the brickwork & arched doorway gave it character, and it certainly wasn't cookie-cutter!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the new building - it's cold, but at least in this picture it's not the ugly concrete thing at 64 E 1st st. The old one didn't look that bad - I'm sure there are buildings that are uglier or in worse shape than the old 222 E 7th, but I guess this is what the developer could get a hold of.

ReplyDeleteThe thing that has helped me see the bright side (literally) of all this ugly architecture is that all the glass sends light into places that didn't get any before. I've got glimmers from some new shitshow building on Clinton street coming in through my kitchen window at sunset that I really enjoy. That's all gonna change, however, when they've finished building the 12 story grey block directly next door. For now, though, yay.
ReplyDeleteI live across the street from it. I am glad the construction is finally over. It was many years in the making. I also think it looks nice and modern. But only millionaires will be able to afford it. Sadly, not me. Oh well. Good luck finding buyers in this awful economy and the new Trump administration :(
ReplyDeleteThe owner and builder looks and acts like Donald Trump. For the past year he has been placing pylons so he has a space for his Hummer, his wife's car, ALL his workers. This means that he will take up to 5-6 spaces. Guaranteed he will continue to do so when he moves in to his luxury penthouse. Renter or buyer beware, if he says parking is no problem; think again. You can parking like the rest of us.
