Developing: Large NYPD presence reported at the Hells Angels HQ

Several readers have reported police activity outside the Hells Angels clubhouse on Third Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue. The street is currently blocked off...

A 25-year-old man was reportedly shot in the stomach early Sunday morning during a fight that involved moving an orange traffic cone outside the HQ.

Will update when more information becomes available.

The NYPD removed the two HA planters that were outside the HQ on the street...

5:23 p.m.

The Daily News noted that police also removed a bench and a ramp from outside the HQ.

It appears that the NYPD did not enter the building: "Cops armed with an Environmental Control Board Summons carried out a visual inspection outside of the property."

A suspect has not been named. The Daily News notes that the members have not been cooperating with the investigation.

  1. I wonder is the shooting victim's family is well connected to someone high up in the city?

  2. Good. Haul the thugs away.

  3. I never have understood why they've been untouchable. They're a criminal organization. They don't have the right to decide who can park on East 3rd Street.

    1. There was a time when that neighborhood was a war zone but if you lived in that block, you knew you were safe because of HA. They didn't let anything happen on that block and it was always spotless.

  4. This is the best thing I've seen since they arrested the Hyrnenkos and everyone else who helped to blow up that building with the gas leak. Serouly, these are not good neighbors, just a bunch of middle aged thugs who think they own the street front of their building. Maybe they should put a giant CitiBike kiosk right in front of thier little clubhouse so they can get some exercise once in awhile instead of riding around on those loud Harleys.

  5. This is great. As someone who has lived on this block for many years, I never thought the NYPD would ever stand up to them and their antics.

  6. You can only evict one from the E.V., Bikers or Bros?

    Go!

  7. This is simply a matter of the NYPD gang showing the HA gang who's badder than whom....

This reminds me of the time when a guy ran over some bikers and then, rather than stopping to see if the bikers were hurt, or calling for an ambulance, just took off. He got his ass justly beaten for that HIT AND RUN, but all the negative backlash was against the bikers.

In this case, you have a guy beating and kicking another guy who's already on the ground. Before he could land another kick, he gets a bullet in his belly. Are we really supposed to take the side of the entitled fuck in his Mercedes with his chain wielding buddy when the guy on the ground was defending himself?

    Sorry, but NO dice....

  8. This is at least the third crackdown that I know of. The first time was after a kid was killed around the 4th of July in the 80's when they put fireworks in a garbage can. And in the nineties the city showed up one day and painted over the no parking stripes they'd painted in the street. They switched to the cones the victim chose to move.

  9. One Saturday night being a drunken tough guy, has resulted in this. Do not envy his position of having a club house of angry bikeless angels wondering who is to blame for being demoted to the subway...

  10. @Bikers or Bros: Bikers are just Bros without an Ivy League education or a trust fund. I say evict them both.

  11. I love how people talk crap anonymously . If you're gonna talk crap about someone , do it like a man . Bunch of overpriveleged wimps .

  12. So we're entitled fucks if we fight back if some old thug punches us in the face? The HA thugs threw the first punch, and it went poorly for them.

Or were they entitled because he wanted to park on a public street?

    Give me a break.

  13. What would it take to get the NYPD to provide this kind of response to Santacon?

If it's about money, let us know who we have to pay off b/c we've got a whole year for the neighborhood to take up a collection against Santacon.

  14. Another thing chris flash.

It is illegal to carry a concealed or visible gun on an NYC street unless you have a permit I doubt this gun using coward has.

'Hope this place shuts down and I could care less if it's one less thing from "back in the day" gone from the East Village.

I miss CBGB, Venus Records etc. immensely but Hells Angels headquarters is one place I will miss if/when it's shut down (hopefully it is.) They think who they are and it's time for them to go. They're one thing from "the old days" which have to go. They haven't "protected" anyone, they have created a climate of fear and intimidation for years. Enough.

  15. All of you anonymous people make me laugh, why not post ur name.oh yea ur afraid. Now just wait until local 81 takes the nypd to court and sues them for damages.Local 81 has a legal team of great numbers.I bet once the nypd enters their clubhouse there wont be anything illegal. All I have to say is AFFA ,

    ReplyDelete
  16. For those anon poster calling out other anon posters, give it a break.

Without all the facts it is impossible to say who is guilty that's why we have courts.

Like them or hate them the HA is a throwback institution and comparing bro douchbags which now run amuck every weekend night and congregate en masse like an invading army of drunk santa locusts I prefer the HA.

  17. "All of you anonymous people make me laugh.." said the guy who posted anonymously. LOL. Why should any group from the Hells Angels to SantaCon be given special privileges that the rest of the neighborshood doesn't get? You break the law, you get arrested, unless you are in a privileged group. Is that fair? Of course not. They are just getting what's coming to them, and it's is about time.

  18. WTF leave the planters alone.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wow why is everyone so against them? What weird comments - yuck.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @anon 3:23: absolutely love the idea of a citibike stand outside their HQ. Poetic justice!

    ReplyDelete
  21. In the twelve years I've lived on the block, never had a problem. The newest ones seem the roughest of them all. The worst was the one who would crack a bullwhip in the street in the middle of the night. They were raided once before, and a bunch of stuff pulled from the building like slot machines. I think a fight prompted that one. Then a little while back a person was slashed if I recall and that's when the street cams went up. And now this.

  24. Anonymous tough guy acting tough to all the anonymous tough guys. When you shoot someone in the middle of the street in New York City, you're going to get hassled, especially if you don't cooperate with the investigation.

  25. Chris Flash, your recount of the Alex Lien incident is hilariously bias.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This sounds like what I imagine a Trump reign is going to look like. Bunch of white supremacist bikers with guns (and planters?) fighting entitled white guys who need to park their sports cars on the most crowded streets in the city. Until they start coming for us and our bike stands.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Maybe it's time to retire this "clubhouse" completely.
And to enforce the noise laws regarding the motorcycles.

    whatever happened to bullwhip guy???

    ReplyDelete
  29. You prefer the HA huh, 7:01pm? I don't prefer one over the other (HA and bros), I wish both would get lost, but I know bros don't shoot other people over parking spaces or anything else period.

Chris Flash the Hells Angel threw the first punch thus started the fight he escalated. Your defense of him/the HAs is ridiculous.

They do not own the East Village let alone the block their headquarters on E.3rd St. even though the do-nothing Ninth Precinct has let them act like they own it for decades. Again, time for the Hells Angels headquarters to go and spare me about "Local 81". The NYPD is not violating a labor agreement let alone part of one. Bottom line is the HA do not own the two parking spaces in front of their building thus have no legal right to secure them for themselves with cones. You want the spaces? Park cars there and do what you have to do to keep them i.e. move the cars.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I lived on E. Third twice, never had a problem with the HA. I thought E. Third between First and Second was the safest street in Manhattan. Never even locked my car.

  31. Time for gentrification to push the Hell's Angels to deep Brooklyn like everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  32. A lot of this talk is the same you used to hear about (supposedly) Mafia-controlled blocks, that the block is safe because no one dares to cross the Hell's Angels. Well someone dared and now the police are forced to take some action. We'll see who wins the battle of the cones...

    ReplyDelete
  33. That last picture deserves to be a classic. Kudos to the photographer.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think every building should claim the space outsde their building and keep the exurbans from running amuck. So I condone this space-acquisition method as an extension of DoT's traffic calmning plan.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The city should put a Citibike stand in front of there.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You have to be illiterate or stupid not to see that big Hells Angels logo on the clubhouse. Didn't Mercedes guy look around or was he just one of those "I do whatever I want wherever I am" types of morons who come to the EV and turn it into a vomitorium before they drive home drunk through the tunnels and across the bridges.
Of course the HA prospect/member should have known what would ensue. It was rash judgement that brought the NYPD to these actions. The NYPD is just 2 blocks away and they don't clash with HA unless a situation arises. Now because of the violent reaction of one HA they are all going to be under the microscope. This might just be the catalyst to shut them down...but remember Sandy Alexander's family still owns the building. There was on ongoing battle for ownership between his family and the HA. Not sure if it was ever settled. Someone has legal ownership though. They don't rent the place. Perhaps they can turn it into a AirBNB. A fantasy hotel...."Hang out with REAL BIKERS! Harley's furnished for each guest as local transportation." I bet they would be booked for years in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Can't say I'm not looking forward to this tit-for-tat between the HA and the NYPD escalating. Should be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This event marks the final chapter of EV gentrification.
The NYPD and the HA will have a symbolic showdown and the HA will blink.
It's over for them now, too much has changed, young people barely know these once legendary bikers, their mythology is on the wane.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You mean all NYPD did was remove two planters?

    ReplyDelete
  40. You would think shooting someone would be enough for a warrant to search the place. An Environmental Control Board Summons ? Seriously ?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Who is Chris Flash. He seems angry

    ReplyDelete
  42. You know what I would like, which the City will never do, is to mark off parking spaces on the streets. Not that they would enforceable, but that act as guides so people would park and actually take up one spot.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hey 10:46am what part of the Hells Angels don't own the parking spaces in front of their building thus have no right to exclusively claim them as their own do you not understand?

So what there's a Hells Angels sign on the building? Do something they don't like (whatever that is since they don't have a list of rules) get beaten, shot, or killed? GTFOH. Who the F UCK are they to tell anyone what to do? The block is safe? More like nothing happens on it because a murderous gang inhabits it. 'Sad people are happy to live in a climate of fear and intimidation.

I hate to break it to you and some other people on here and out there reading/not commenting: people can drive a Mercedes into the East Village for drinks or whatever whenever and park wherever they can find a spot. And what a person drives does not define who they are.

Again, if the HA want those two parking spaces all to themselves, they could simply park two cars in them and do what they have to do to always secure them.

A shooting. Are people that dense? Nobody likes SantaCon or the HA or the bros, but your comment is inane.

  45. I live on this block (and have for quite a few years now):

Anyone who thinks the block is "safer" because of the HA is delusional. Do you really think they give a sh*t about protecting me, you, or any other random person around here? They protect their own, their precious bikes, cones, bench, and "territory". Don't think for a second that they'd come to your rescue for anything.

They shot someone because they moved a cone, so that would make this block less safe than all the other EV blocks that did not have someone get shot for moving a cone. That's most (if not all) blocks.

There was a random stabbing/slashing on this block a few months ago, blood all over the sidewalk. Is that safer than your block? Did the HA protect/prevent that from happening, doubt it.

Also, if you think they're "helping" by directing traffic as you drive by cones, you are an idiot. They are proactively telling you to get away and protecting their bikes. I see them screaming and yelling at drivers all the time just for slowing down near the cones (and trying to understand if they can park there or not).

    ReplyDelete
  46. Am starting to think that a lot of the anger towards the HA here mostly has to do with the parking spaces. Who cares if they take the space in front of their building for their bikes! Is it because you can't park your precious SUV there and have to walk a block or two instead? You are the ones who don't belong here.

  47. Chris flash ,
I don't aggree with your synopsis. But i'll tell you later when i see you at the key food. Till then , hope all is well.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @4:43pm: You are completely delusional.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Anon 4:43

No, it's because they shot someone and act like they are above the law. You make a lot of wrong assumptions, so I'll make the assumption that you are not very bright.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The cones in front of the H.A. building on their side of the street, that was wrong, but when they also put up the cones on the opposite side of the street, that is total b.s. Street parking does not work that way. It is first come first serve, not "I can reserve the space with a cone." So when the guy comes out of the H.A. building to freak out over the moved cone, that was totally wrongheaded. And bringing a gun to a parking space argument (it is even debatable that the guys in the Mercedes were trying to park) is total wrong too.

  51. @6:43pm and @7:54pm: No, what I am is a realist from the neighborhood. It's simple. If you don't like the HA, don't move to that block.

  52. @11:33 PM
As per your comment about my preferring the HA's to douche frat-bros. I never had a run in with the HA, not saying they are not dangerous but the latter lives on my block, your block and many more invade the nab each weekend to party, piss and vomit on our streets without any consequences. Bros also like to fight too when they get drunk, they also are fond of tipping trash cans on the streets, yelling for no fucking reason at all times of the night and boy they love a good rooftop party where their hoots and hillbilly calls can be heard for blocks. It was some stupid bro's that picked a fight with that HA guy, resorted to using a chain as a weapon and now one is in the hospital because they of some stupid bro action.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The HA have the same sense of entitlement as the Bros and other gentrifiers. It is ridiculous and ignorant to say someone shouldn't move to an area because of HA.

  54. The original media accounts said that the Mercedes was attempting to park. In the subsequent stories the occupants said that Martinez exited the car to move the cones so that the Mercedes could pass an idling livery cab.
