New York Sports Club branding arrives at the former David Barton Gym on Astor Place
The New York Sports Club signage arrived this past week at the former David Barton gym on Astor Place.
Earlier this month, Town Sports International, the owners of the New York Sports Clubs brand, announced that they had bought the 10,000-square-foot space ... which will become one of New York Sports Clubs' collection of Elite clubs...
No sign of any member records lying in the snow.
David Barton abruptly closed in December.

As a former member of David Barton, I can only imagine what happened to the possessions of the remaining members who left their things overnight in the lockers not to mention the other remaining personal items on the other floors. Too bad.
ReplyDeleteYou could also not pay me to work out at this location. I feel it is cursed. Just my two cents.
Come on; you overstate a tad.
ReplyDeleteOf course it was shocking when David Barton shuttered overnight, and disconcerting to its regulars. But as a person living in the neighborhood, watching it happen, first my jaw dropped, and then I was intrigued. I saw the shuttering occur at the giant location at the Printing House, and then Astor P)lace.
But I was impressed that contrary to your implication, Newmark, the landlord, almost immediately, posted instructions to members, for how they could arrange claiming left behind personal property. I'm guessing you didn't see that.
Regarding the curse, I'm excited to test your theory. Astor Place is half the distance to my current NYSC, and Broadway can be a bear at 6am in the Winter.
