Here today on Third Street between Avenue B and Avenue C, parishioners from Most Holy Redeemer/Nativity Parish and St. Mary Grand took part in the "Way of the Cross" procession, a Good Friday tradition that marks the last stage of the journey that Jesus walked in his earthly life.
EVG correspondent Stacie Joy shared these photos... this year, the church officials mic'd the cross so you could hear the pounding of the "nails."
Why cant these 'rites' be kept inside the church?

ReplyDeleteAnonymous....Why? They bothering you? It a celebration of their religion. All faiths deserve the right to do such a thing. I personally would have to interest in this, but it gets people together for good. For peace. For fellowship. They then disperse happy and hungry. They goto a local restaurant/bar and enjoy further fellowship. They spend money. The community becomes stronger. I'm all about it. The EV is such a diverse facinating place. Without these things it dies a little.

ReplyDeleteThis is harmless. Every year I witness this reenactment. I must give props to those who are believers. They seem to have such passion and loyalty to and with their faith. As an Atheist, I am respectful of others and their religions as long as it doesn't impinge on my personal space or well being. If it offers peace and makes sense to them, live and let live.

ReplyDeleteThat attitude can be used to rain on all sorts of parades. But I guess when you talk about being tolerant and inclusive of everyone, certain exceptions apply. Always check the small print, kids.
Satanist marches? You mean like the AM commute? How about the pilgrimages to the voting booths? When you actually study Satanism, and not take the Halloween costume at face value, you begin to realize that most people are already unapologetic practioners. Satanism is just secular humanism in plastic red horns.
