Reading report: Knife-wielding man arrested on 9th Street

A reader shared this from this evening on Ninth Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue: "Million cops came out of nowhere and arrested a guy. Crazy scene."

Police at the scene said that the suspect, who appeared to be a minor, was threatening to stab people on St. Mark's Place. Witnesses said that police found "a huge knife" on the suspect following the arrest.

  1. So that's what was going on. I walked down the block when there were some cops still there but the incident was over. I wonder who this guy was. The travelers are back so maybe it was one of them. They are active on Second Avenue and St. Mark's as well as 7th Street again. Have they been run out of Tompkins? I have noticed they migrated to St. Mark's and Second in the last couple of years.

  2. A woman told me about this earlier; she said the guy was threatening to stab everyone—hence, the knife.

I said that was the first I'd heard of it, "but it will certainly be on E.V. Grieve!" And so it is!

  3. St. Mark's is a freak show late at night / early morning.

  4. St.Mark's Place between 2nd and 3rd needs a beat cop from 9pm to 5am.

  5. If there was a beat cop or two around there this guy would've been stopped sooner.

NYPD is so afraid to walk among the people.

    Glorified crime scene moppers.

Name me the last time a cop stopped someone without being called on to do so?
