Report: About the 20 year old who spent the night locked inside a Lower East Side bar

The Post files two stories about a 20-year-old New Jersey resident who reportedly passed out in the women's restroom at Boss Tweed's, the bar/saloon on Essex near Delancey.

Article Article No. 1:

Therese Hipolito, 20, of Flemington, could be heard shouting from behind the roll-down gate at Boss Tweed’s ... before cops set her free at around 9:20 a.m. [yesterday], police and witnesses said.

And...

The reveler had been tossing back drinks with a gal pal when she nodded off on the floor of the bar’s rest room some time before workers closed up at 4 a.m., sources said.

She woke up a few hours later, freaked out and called 911 at 7:55 a.m., according to cops.

Bartenders had failed to check the bathroom before closing up, cops said.

The bar may now be in hot water over the underage drinker, a police source said.

Then in article No. 2, she told the Post that she believes her drink was spiked.

“Whatever happened last night, I’m not that kind of person.

“I would never be in the city just drinking. I was at a friend’s birthday party. I had one shot and one glass of champagne. And the last thing I remember, I go get a slice of pizza with my friend and we sit back down in a booth [at the bar] and that was my last clear memory."

And about being locked in:

“How do you not notice someone sleeping on the floor of your bathroom? There are only two stalls," she said, adding, "I’m going to sue them."

Speaking of her night behind the bar’s bars, she said “it’s really not like me – it’s so inappropriate and trashy."

Boss Tweed's closed earlier this year ... and reemerged as a more upscale lounge that advertises Super Model Karaoke on Wednesday evenings.

  2. I'm glad she is okay.

I see so many drunk young men and women on the weekend during the freakin' day — more than in recent years. I walked out of my building on 6th Street last Sunday afternoon to see a woman sprawled on the sidewalk throwing up and sobbing. Huge pile of barf. Her one friend was trying to console her. Her other friend was trying to no avail to find a cab driver to pick them up. One slowed down and kept going when he saw the drunk mess.

These brunch places really need to do a better job of patrolling people who are drinking too much on these drunk brunch specials. More than anything they need to be outlawed.

  3. Maybe she should sue her friend who apparently didn't notice her missing. Some gal pal!

  4. Under age drinking!! Will the owner of the bar face any consequences--have their license suspended? Will the bartenders face any consequences? In the bar=friendly EV I doubt it. Thirty days in the slammer would be a good start.

That's a great sentiment but it doesn't go far enough. Follow-up telephone calls in the evening before bedtime to make sure these kids are flossing would be a great start.

    "I’m going to sue them."

Princess Cupcake should first sue herself and her parents, too, but at least she got the "inappropriate and trashy" part right though she missed the mark a bit.

  6. She should sue Boss Tweed's for leaving her there as it's their job to get her off the premises.

They put her in mortal danger for what if there was a fire, a gas leak, or a burgular with a weapon?

Also she could've been bitten by a rabid rat while she was passed out and not known the bite came from one.

    1. It's not "their job" to get her off the premises. Smh.

  7. Actually, it would be a public service if all the bars in the area could lock their patrons inside and release them in the morning so we could all get a good night's sleep and not have to listen to all their hootin' and hollering. Is there a way this could be mandated by law?

  8. She is planning on suing when she is under age and drinking which she admitted to. Let's see her fake ID. Being an adult is accepting responsibility. Especially for stupid mistakes. Admit you could not handle your alcohol and move on. Or another side to the story, she planned on robbing the place after it closed and claimed to be a victim. Go back and stay in jersey leave our neighborhood alone.

  9. I hope she does sue, and finds herself before a very pragmatic judge who will tell her exactly what she can do with her little lawsuit.

  10. Between all the roofies and bootleg alcohol that's floating around these days, I wouldn't be surprised if she was either drugged or poison by bad alcohol. Either way they should've never left her in the bathroom and locked her inside the bar. There have been a lot of cases of people passing out and even dying after just taking a couple shots of bad alcohol recently. The bar is lucky that nothing worse happened to this young lady. Obviously someone has no clue how to run a bar properly. Yet somehow they were able to get their hands on a liquor license. Excuse me, I'm going to go call Hannibal Lecter now and see if he wants to open a bar.

  13. Okay so look, all of us whether we were teens in the 70s 80s or 90s or earlier or later, have all (unless sober) done at least one stupid drinking thing. HOWEVER what i don't get is why is it it just seems so much worse. Yes, I had some dumb drama when i was a teen, but i do not remember it as every day every street, etc. what is going on? yes it's a free country but this is unacceptable. why does it seem worse than in the 70s/80s/90s? how do we deal with this but not e NIMBY's?

  14. Hmm, looks like this woman was arrested last January for attempting to steal over $400 worth of merchandise from Kohl's. http://www.nj.com/hunterdon/index.ssf/2017/01/2_charged_for_using_handbags_to_shoplift_at_walmar.html

  16. Actually it is the owner's job to get her off the premises. I mean, the owner could leave her there but then the owner is opening up him/herself to liability the insurance company won't cover e.g. if she woke up and started smashing liquor bottles and breaking equipment, that would not be covered by insurance because the insurance company would say (in so many words) "You let this person trespass and run amok." The insurance company's claim investigator would easily find out she wasn't a burgular.

  17. 11:21 PM same or similar name, same age, same state. Do we know it is the same person?

  18. I used to live in that building. That place is a fucking nightmare. Talk about trashy, ""I’m going to sue them." is trashy and obnoxious. If you feel the need to sue them, be subtle.
