It's like Santa's Workshop on St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue... where crews have been busy prepping for shooting the Amazon series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" ... the dramedy is set in 1958. And apparently around Christmas, as these photos via Scuba Diva show...

Looks like a big shoot... as of early this morning, there wasn't any parking allowed on parts of Avenue A from St. Mark's Place to Sixth Street, and on a few of the side streets...

ReplyDeleteI'm all for movies / TV shot in the neighborhood, but really wish the Mayor's office would mandate some kind of local spend to offset the disruption. For instance, $500 spend at Ray's, $500 spend at Odessa, etc.
ReplyDeleteNo parking allowed on so many blocks but nothing changes for local businesses because people don't use cars to go around the neighborhood. Remove all metered parking on the avenues please and install a bike lane on Avenue B !
ReplyDeleteWe really could use a shoe repair on that block; there used to be two on the same block of 7th street, and they're both long-gone.
ReplyDeleteI agree the Mayor's office should give money to the local businesses whose business is disrupted; unfortunately our do-nothing mayor is going to sit this one out.
I hope enough people are disillusioned enough with BlahBlahBlasio to get him voted out in the next election; we can hope.
DeBlasio primaried out by who? No one has stepped up to the plate, it's too late, and he's too well-known to be beaten. I know you don't want a Republican mayor and the third one since 1993 since Bloomberg was one at one point.
ReplyDeleteThe next NYC mayor after the empty suit who will win a second term this November will be another empty suit like DeBlasio, another autocrat asshole like Giuliani, or another rich guy with no feel for the people like Bloomberg unless a progressive with money, ideas, and zero love or even like for developers, landlords, or chain businesses steps up to the plate.

ReplyDeleteA bike lane on Avenue B?!? Are you serious? That's the tightest, narrowest avenue of all the alphabets, the only one with only a single lane per direction - where on earth would a bike lane go?!?
ReplyDelete@3:16 AM Just curious - what do you mean by "local"? I'm SAG (since 1976) and local (2nd/St.Marks) but most SAG members I work with lately are outer borough or Jersey/Connecticut residents.
ReplyDeleteWalked along St Mark's yesterday admiring the cars and retro-fitted storefronts. What a joy - please leave the block that way! It was also great to see so many happy people. Classic cars seem to bring out the best.
