Oishi Village Sushi has gone out of business on 2nd Avenue
That's it for the all-you-can-eat-sushi spot on Second Avenue between 12th Street and 13th Street.
Per the sign on the front door: "We're closed. Out of business."
The restaurant, from the owners of Oishi Bay Sushi Restaurant on Second Avenue and 29th Street, opened back in March.
Thank you to @afuseld for the tip!

That was fast. I never even got to check it out. Did they go broke from giving away food...all that you can eat? Or did they just never get enough customers in this tiny little set back spot?
ReplyDeleteNo wonder. I am quite keen on good Sushi. But even an avid diner of this cuisine, understands the best of places don't offer all you can eat, which is a sign of something odd. Honestly, it is a tacky and outdated practice. I am not surprised to hear of this.
ReplyDeleteMy Japanese ex-wife would never set foot in an "all you can eat" Sushi place. Raw fish needs to be pristinely fresh or else you run significant health risks. Long ago, there was a place that used to serve great sushi at very reasonable prices on that block. How I miss "Mie" !
ReplyDeleteI actually ate here a few times (like when I wanted to stuff my face after the marathon). They had really decent quality sushi, the AYCE included plenty of appetizers and other Japanese dishes (gyoza, age tofu, noodles, salads), and it was BYOB (which might have done it in on the profit margin). I was very sad (and slightly pathetic) to show up here with a Groupon on MLK Day and find it closed.
ReplyDeleteI ate here with my Japanese wife and two daughters and it was great service and very delicious food. We wish you all the best on your next location.
ReplyDeleteI bought the Dinner For Two for $44 from Groupon. Had previously eaten here and it was very good, and the staff excellent. We went to use the Groupon and they were out of business.
ReplyDeleteContacted Groupon's awful customer service via e-mail, and all they offered were Groupon Buck...to spend on another bullshit Groupon deal. Only problem is that I'm not interested in what Groupon has to offer. That's it for me with Groupon. It has morphed into a sleazy grifter site. Stay away!
