As mentioned back on March 26, notices for a new full liquor license arrived on the door at 118 First Ave. at Seventh Street — the former Golden Market.
The applicant's questionnaire is now online at the CB3 website ahead of Monday evening's SLA committee meeting.
According to the paperwork (PDF here), the applicants also operate Entwine, a wine bar over on Washington Street (at West 12th) that serves Mediterranean-style menu items. (They were the subject of one of those annoying BoƮte features at the Times in 2012.)
The bar-restaurant, which doesn't have a name just yet (TBD!), has proposed daily hours of 11 a.m. to midnight during the week and until 2 a.m. on weekends. The configuration shows 12 tables seating 38 guests and a bar with 14 stools.
There's also a proposed menu, showing a variety of sandwiches and tartines, and entrees that include grass-fed lamb chops, free-range oven-baked chicken thigh and grilled branzino.
The CB3-SLA meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the Public Hotel, 17th Floor, Sophia Room, 215 Chrystie St. between Houston and Stanton.
Golden Food Market closed last July after 35 years in business.
Previously on EV Grieve:

Golden Food Market closes on 1st Avenue and 7th Street
Looking at that pdf of existing licenses within 750 ft. I noticed that they didn't mention the International Bar (formerly Coal Yard) at 102 First Ave.
ReplyDeleteGrass-fed lamb chops and free range chicken thighs. That must be an interesting farm where chops are fed grass and chicken parts are running around the coop.
ReplyDeleteI didn't notice that, Walter. But I did count over 60 licensed establishments within 750 feet of this place! It is amazing to me that the community board doesn't have this in their "saturated" zone.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to attending this meeting to see what the public benefit is of yet another $$$$$$ wine bar.

ReplyDeleteaccording to the district manager "to become a saturated area the block association has to petition the board with signature of most of the residents of the block".
and they don't just enforce the 750 foot rule - that requires a hearing - i don't remembr the process, i just remember onlyfull liquor licenses are counted not B&W
i will hold my comments regarding the board
Entwine is a good spot — hope they can recreate that here.
ReplyDelete102 First Avenue is listed, as is the old IBar spot. But St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr's Church just a few feet down the block at 101 E 7th St isn't noted.
ReplyDeletePlease send letters or attend. This is an unlicensed space. If they want a full liquor-purchase the assets from a space that is selling. No new full licenses.
