New York's first-ever "night mayor" wants to get the city's residents and nightlife business owners to learn to coexist https://t.co/enpQFzDvQk

Grub Street files an interview with East Village resident Ariel Palitz, the senior executive director of the Office of Nightlife at the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment ... aka the recently appointed night mayor.
Here's an excerpt:
Her history with complaining neighbors has made Palitz a target for accusations of impartiality. One resident even called in to WNYC during Mayor de Blasio’s weekly appearance to tell the politician that Palitz was “very far from being a neutral, unbiased party.” De Blasio defended his pick, describing her as a “person who can find a fair approach.”
His commitment to making the role work, though, is as vague as that answer. Despite the “night mayor” title, Palitz cannot introduce bills or sign any legislation. Her role is purely advisory. “This is really intended to be an educated opinion that informs the administration about the issues for all the stakeholders and to be an advocate for the industry as well as the community in a way that has not existed before,” she says. “I’m a messenger.”

How bars and other "night life" establishments follow existing laws regarding noise levels, closing times, keeping customers from gathering on sidewalks, stop over serving customers before they get wasted. This woman will only side with the very type of businesses she owned and operated to disastrous ends.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to make that kind of money for doing nothing.
ReplyDeleteAnother example of how pay to play is alive and well in city hall.Hey rent stabilized tenants should feel LUCKY no matter how incredibly difficult it is to survive on 3 hours of sleep 90% of the time because the bar/restaurant/club below you or wherever keeps you up all night.
ReplyDeleteOh and F>U> because the establishment employs people and pays sales tax so tough S+++T
DeBozo is a liar and a clueless one at that
Palitz is just another Trump like appointee. She's out to destroy neighborhoods with her entertainment plans. When she gets through with the EV every restaurant and take out joint will turn into a dance club. More taxes. More kickbacks(for De Mayor's next run). Oh, she can't pass any laws etc but she can send a strong message to Community Boards about de Mayor wants. If we're tired of the way our pols are treating us don't vote for ONE PARTY RULE. Don't vote for ONE PARTY RULE.
ReplyDeleteWhat does MAyor Chirlene think of her?
ReplyDeleteWhat is this incoherent gobbledygook she’s spewing? Lets recall that she has already refused to speak to the pres, now she needs to eat a taco before she speaks? Apprently the Nightlife Mayor doesn't even know its rude to talk with your mouth full. Here’s the money quote:
ReplyDelete“Rather than being reactive and putting out fires left and right and navigating in the dark on what’s the best way to open and operate or to complain or to have a conversation,” Palitz says, “this office is an opportunity to establish a new mutual respect that has not really been established because everyone’s been out there surviving with the bar next door, with the chronic neighbor who’s always complaining.”
What the hell does that even mean? So she’s not going to “put out fires” in a nightlife scene that’s a complete dumpster fire every single weekend? Palitz wants the establish “mutual respect?” For what, all the loud bars that are keeping people awake at night? It’s up to the bars to earn that respct, not to the community to give it to owners who just want to make as much money as possible regardless of the impact on their neighbors. Sorry, but consider me not impressed. At all.
$tupid wa$te of taxpayer$' $$$....
ReplyDelete$he $hould get a real mcjob.
This woman is useless to the community at large; as far as I can tell, she's being paid to make sure the bars & clubs continue doing a land-office business, while doing nothing to deal with the noise, disruptive behavior, and mess left behind by the revelers who *so* enjoy our neighborhood, and who don't respect that WE actually live here.
ReplyDeleteAnother example the De Blasio administration being as helpful as a dead potted plant.
Why does she keep referring to some chronically complaining neighbor? Is that supposed to make us think she cares about NOISE? I've lived many years in the city and perhaps I've gotten more sensitive as I've gotten older, but it's also gotten noisier, and noise is not good for children and other living things! When did commercial HVAC units become more important than people?
