The coming soon signage is up at 124 Second Ave. where the Dumpling Shop is prepping for a grand opening here between Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place.

According to Facebook, the Shop is "[a]n internationally inspired culinary experience through one of the world’s most iconic foods: dumplings."
The previous business at this address, San Loco, closed in June 2017 "due to a rent increase that is unsustainable," as owner Jill Hing put it. San Loco opened in this location in 1986.

Thanks to the commenter to point out the Shop's website, which includes the menu.
The website and menu are over at http://www.thedumplingshop.com/. No word yet on who owns the restaurant.

They lost me at "we're trying to reinvent". Not criticizing. Just a personal thing. I have realized that I have no shits to give about any kind of newfangled, reinvented food. I just like good food, really could not care less about it being innovative or whatever.
ReplyDeleteHow many dumplings do we need?
ReplyDeleteWish this business well, but it's gonna be a tough sell with the mob of crusties literally on their doorstep. Can't believe these "travelers" are allowed to take over public space, block the entire narrow sidewalk and leave a pig-stye in their wake when they finally go elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThank the lord, dumplings! They're so hard to find. Now if only we could have a noodle shop, like ramen maybe.
ReplyDeleteI think this makes 9 Chinese restaurants or dessert places between 1st and 14th St, Yuan closing canceling out this new one..
ReplyDeleteI will be happy if this dumpling place keeps San Loco’s hours. It’s hard to find snack foods, small meals late at night along 2nd Ave.
Twee.
ReplyDeleteNot even original twee. Derivative twee.
Maybe twee pays the rent, I don't know. It's always over-priced, though, by definition.
This isn't Midtown South anymore, it’s the Dumpling District, located right next to Chinatown North. Now can we please get a few more Vietnamese places?
