The Brant Foundation is releasing a new block of tickets for people to check out the Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibition at the Brant Foundation's Sixth Street home.
As artnet News reports, the foundation is expanding its daily capacity from 1,100 to 2,000 guests to accommodate more visitors.
All 50,000 of the free tickets were apparently reserved even before the exhibition officially opened on March 6.
"The demand for tickets was not a huge surprise," Allison Brant told artnet News in an email. "We knew how beloved Jean-Michel Basquiat is and that people would not want to miss an opportunity to see this many works together again, especially in the East Village."
The exhibition, featuring some 70 works collectively valued at $1 billion, is up through May 15 at the Brant Foundation, 421 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue. Hit this link to reserve tickets.

It’s a great show, thanks for posting the info so we can see it again!
ReplyDelete“Sold Out” is on every day the minute I clicked the link from my email ðŸ˜
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a lot of bait and switch, if you ask me. Twice there's an announcement, and twice immediately all are sold out. I dont get it. This is b.s.
ReplyDeleteI was on the waiting list, was fortunate enough to check my email about 30 minutes after I received it, and got a pair of tickets. I alerted a friend, she got hers about 90 mins after I got mine. I was sad I didn't get tickets in the first release, this made my day yesterday. Sorry to those who didn't get tix.. it's not a bait and switch, this is a VERY popular show!
ReplyDeleteIs Basquiat the most overrated artist in American history? You be the judge at this excellent show.
ReplyDeleteSo as someone in the art world id like to say these were all gone to others on the art world... ive been out of the country so mine went to someone else. That said, as an east village resident a block away, im bummed they didnt open this up to neighborhood bookings early too. Makes me feel like our new neighbor isnt being neighborly
ReplyDeleteI saw this show, and I’m not in the artworld, so I have no idea what that means. The tickets were popular, if you got in early you got a ticket. And the show is amazing. If anything Basquiat’s accomplishment is not appreciated enough, especially in this neighborhood, and I hope they have more shows with his paintings. This is as good an exhibition as you will ever see at any gallery or museum, and it’s free. Everyone has an equal chance to see the show, so if you didnt get tickets set up a Goolge alert so that next time you will be able get in as soon as tickets are available.
ReplyDeleteyou can just go hang out by the entrance and they'll let you in when space allows
