A climb up into the Hare Krishna tree
A tree crew showed up today in the center of Tompkins Square Park ... with the Hare Krishna tree the focus of their attention. (There were admittedly a few anxious moments while people wondered what they might be doing. You never know what the city has planned.)
However, the workers said they were there to test equipment... with one worker showing the other some tree-climbing tips, per EVG correspondent Steven ...
Thanks to Steven for the photos.

What are they doing that for? I hope they are not going to hurt that great tree with what ever nonsense they are doing. They should leave that tree alone.
ReplyDeleteThe city cut down the perfectly healthy "bendy" tree right next to this one- a beautiful old tree. Rev Billy gave a eulogy. Lots of money in contracts for cutting trees. I wouldn't trust them for a second not to cut this one down too to line some friend's pocket.
ReplyDeleteThe so called bendy tree had been anchored by cable to the other tree it was not stable and a hazard with storms thus its removal. If I had a complaint about the parks maintenance of these old trees it would be for the lack of sensible particularly the old Elms. They need to plant more American hardwoods. ReplyDeleteWhere is our councilperson?
ReplyDeleteThese are the people who want to Turf the Asphalt but they should spend their efforts on the entire park... which has turned into a mess. The plantings are non existent or scraggly. Look at Ave B it's practically dirt. Hey, maybe they plan to Turf that too! The Parks Dept. seems to be a law unto themselves. Who elected them? We didn't even elect our elected officials. Last election 19% of the electorate voted. All minority officials. You would think they would want to make life better for their people. ONE PARTY RULE... ONE PARTY RULE!
ReplyDeleteit's very necessary to trim branches from a tree, these tree technicians know what they are doing,, Rev Billy not so much... please allow people that understand how things work to take care of things like this - thank you, - normal people who don't wait to comment on things they know nothing about.
