Back to school

Welcome Week is underway at NYU... and starting tomorrow (Sunday, Aug. 25), new and returning underclassman are able to return to the dorms.

Something to keep in mind if you were planning on a trip to, say, Trader Joe's on 14th Street tomorrow afternoon. Also, No Parking signs are posted around the various dorms on streets including, but not limited to, 13th, 12th, 11th, 10th and 9th. Expect some extra vehicular traffic, double parking and frazzled parents and guardians, among other things.

  1. Wait. Classes at NYU don't begin until after Labor Day, so God knows what do they will do to fill time over the next 10 days. Since NYU gets out for Summer recess the 2nd week of May, they basically have a 4 month summer vacation, so maybe they're using those 10 days to rest up from summer vacation.

  2. On Saturday morning I already saw parents & their kids arguing with dorm security over WHY their kiddies can't move in early! (Even though the NYU website explicitly states there's no early move-in!)

The entitlement virus has arrived, and will be on full display in the coming months, what with NYU & other students, the many Webster Hall attendees, and the soon-to-come MOXY crowd.

  3. Who calls it "Welcome Week?" It's more like "Welcome to Hell" week!
