In case you want to plan ahead... Veniero's Pasticceria & Caffé, 342 E. 11th St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue, is now promoting its 125th anniversary, taking place on Sept. 23...
Antonio Veniero founded the bakery at this address in 1894
Robert Zerilli is the fourth-generation current owner and great-nephew of Antonio Veniero.
And thanks to EVG regular Lola Saénz, who shared this photo in Friday morning's light...
Good for them. Amazing. I just would not stand in line for anything which is free. Too many people will be there.
ReplyDeleteFeel SO lucky to live so close, and get their wonderful hospitality & cannolis (and cookies, and cheesecake) all the time <3
ReplyDeleteLove love love Veniero's, a true neighborhood treasure. And Rob's a great guy, too. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteMy prediction - people will wait on line for three or more hours to get a free mini cannoli, immersed in their phone screens the entire them they do so.
ReplyDeleteWho needs Zoltar?!? (Besides, he's now too busy making Liberty Mutual TV commercials.)
I celebrate their 125 years frequently! They don't over-sugar everything - you can actually taste different ingredients other than sweet.
ReplyDeleteVeniero? NEVER!!
ReplyDeleteDe Robertis Pasticceria FOREVER!!!!!
(oops)
If you hate lines, you could celebrate by BUYING SOMETHING at any time!
ReplyDeleteMy family has been engaged in a longtime and unresolved dispute about whether the ricotta or New York style cheesecake is better. My MIL is all about the pignoli cookies, which I spend obscene sums to ship to California for her birthday.
Seriously, happy anniversary to this wonderful institution.
What an accomplishment! Congrats!

ReplyDeleteThe Italian (ricotta) is clearly better, and it is my dessert island cheesecake. I've been going to Veniero's for decades, and the cookies and cakes are amazingly consistent ...
Youse people should know better. Don't tell me about cookies and cannolis and what not. Nothing beats their torta di grano wheat berry pie at Easter. Or their bomb ass Sicilian cheesecake.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Venieros. The best desserts in NYC.
ReplyDelete6:21, is your name Sophocles because you're TRAGICALLY wrong? The NY cheesecake is the best! (my stupid husband and stupid daughter agree with you, though.)
