A football-sized cocktail to go option on 3rd Avenue
As seen outside Bar None on Third Avenue between 12th Street and 13th Street... $20 for a to-go cocktail served in a football-sized container with an easy-sipping option... keep the container, and a refill is $15 ...

Alright but just this once.
ReplyDeleteI'll pass.
ReplyDeleteHow is this essential?
ReplyDeleteDon't tell me I'm the only one who thinks that looks like an enema.
ReplyDeleteWhat could possibly go wrong?
ReplyDeleteThe creativity of the EV is manifest in many of the bar and restaurant operators. The CV crisis has brought a range of responses from our business leaders, revealing their essence. While some have fallen back on a jokey teenage 'hey we drink lots hee hee' from time to time, this is excusable as they seek content for numerous letter-boards and social media posts, and of course they are forced to improvise as bills come due.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part our bars are run by cool people who patronize musicians and filmmakers and artists, and are often artists themselves. They provide us with 'living rooms' and impromtu dance halls. Friendships form and love blooms. We expect innovation in their public offerings and pleas as this crisis goes on. We should likewise not be surprised by the tactics of other businesses, that have never claimed an excess of community consciousness. Their management is guided by neither artistic instincts nor moral compass. Today's football-sized drink from X spurs what? A golf-bag of hootch from Z? Let this arms-race be ignored. Let their excesses not be confused with artistry. These are places whose conception of hilarity doesn't rise above ugly Christmas sweaters. They will receive from me the same patronage during these cursed times as they did in the before-times : not a single dollar.
And if they are to shut their doors, never to open? If their fiscal balance sheet is to match their moral condition, will the EV suffer? I think we will be okay. Next December's Santas can find refuge elsewhere. Perhaps, just as smog has disappeared from some cities, we will see in our great neighborhood a de-douchefication. The birds will sing and we can be our better angels. Until the day (and nights!) when our fine establishments re-open we can support them in nondestructive ways. I support the idea of buying gift certificates. I liken to 'war bonds.' It shows from both the biz and patrons a belief in the future. A good and great future of love and friendships.
Peace be with you!
That is some 'choise' spelling!
