City Harvest opening distribution center in the former Associated on 14th Street
From the EVG tip line yesterday... workers from City Harvest were spotted unloading supplies into the former Associated Supermarket space on 14th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue...
City Harvest is setting up a distribution center (Repacks or Mobile Markets?) in the space. Will update the post when more information is available.
The Associated closed here back in December.
Thanks to Michelle and Gamelan, who took these photos...

Thank you, City Harvest, for helping our community.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. I passed by there last week and thought about how busy Associated would be right now if only their landlord had agreed to give them a fair lease. People are really missing this supermarket now, and this has made it harder on everyone. I hope that StuyTown, which has over 2 dozen buildings infected with coronavirus, is donating the space for free, and not taking the tax write off, because the space will be empty for years anyway. Good for City Harvest, but the richest nation on earth should not need charities to hand out food to feed millions of people.
ReplyDeleteThey get to write it off for every month it stand unused, regardless if they donate it to charity use or keep it closed. Irrelevant.
DeleteSince you mention repeatedly that many buildings in Stuy Town are "infected", care to share the source of that data? We can find only zipcode data. Where do you find this?
NY1 had a segment this morning about how City Harvest has taken over numerous sites in the five boroughs to run food pantries; I am guessing this site might be one of them. Apparently anyone will be able to go and get food and supplies.
ReplyDeleteThis is good to know. Two homeless people asked me yesterday where they could get a free meal and I couldn't help them.
