Reader report: A curfew arrest on 11th Street
A reader shares the below video clip from last night on 11th Street between Avenue B and Avenue C.
According to the reader, the woman was standing in front of her building some 45 minutes after the 8 p.m. curfew went into effect. Three police cars were involved in her arrest. It's not known what, if anything, she did aside from being out past the curfew. Per the reader: "As you can hear, the block is not having it."

God, how I love my neighbors.
ReplyDeleteWhen guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.
ReplyDeleteWhen curfews are imposed, only outlaws will be on the streets during the restricted hours.
When curfews are imposed, there will be no pedestrian eyes on the street to deter the outlaws.
Privatize the police.
Bring back Jane Jacobs and get with anarchy.

@bill: If you want anarchy so much, move to one of the many countries on this planet where you're guaranteed to have that. But no, you're still here, so...
ReplyDeleteThere's always one "go somewhere else if you don't like it here" in every crowd.
DeleteTru dat.
DeleteSo the big man with the big mouth who apparently hates the Police.
ReplyDeleteBE A Man up step up and go downstairs instead of hiding behind your curtains .
go offer some assistance to the poor lady instead of yelling .
just another Back Seat Anarchist...
I'm with Bill! We need eyes on the streets, and the curfew is a complete predictable failure.
ReplyDeleteNo one's making the police waste time and energy arresting a random person just standing in front of their house. No one's making them waste time and energy beating people, either. Their not responding to property destruction is a choice.
ReplyDeleteAnarchy does not exist in any country. Every country has a state and a head of state. CEKATT--criminal entity known as the State.
ReplyDeleteGet with liberty, common law and anarchy or get with the CEKATT, state "law" and chaos.

Sure, but there are countries in the world which are closer to the state of anarchy than the US, funny people tend to flee from them.
DeleteMonty Python episode?
DeleteFor better or worse, an organized police force is the best tool humans have devised so far to enforce law in a civilized society (unless you think vigilantes, mob rule, blood feuds, and endemic warfare are preferable).
ReplyDeleteIt is very disturbing that the police are being dehumanized and people can be so ready to praise the man in the video for hurling verbal abuse at the police officers. I live in the LaGuardia Houses and every time I hear shouting, glass shattering, and explosions in the middle of the night, I wish the police would do more, not less. If the woman in the video is not one of those who is exempt, she needs to abide by curfew because no one should consider themselves above the law.
C'mon, the police didn't send 3 cars here simply because one woman was standing outside. There is something else going on.
