Popeyes now open on 1st Avenue

As you may have noticed, the Popeyes debuted back on Saturday here at 39 First Ave. here between Second Street and Third Street.

EVG contributor Stacie Joy took this photo of the franchise owner (left) with his Popeyes team on opening day...
Anyone try this new outpost?

I tried it last night. It was as you'd expect. The biscuits were good. The chicken was good, but if you're expecting the heavens to open up or something, you're better off with Blue Ribbon or Bobwhite. I think there is a market for Popeye's chicken here, though, and they'll do well.

I visited yesterday. The space is very clean. The staff were welcoming and professional. And the spicy chicken tenders and cajun rice were delicious. I am happy they are now part of our neighborhood. When I need some comfort food, I know where to go.
