This is the toy shop that we told you about last month... they will be carrying on the legacy for Dinosaur Hill down the block.
Dinosaur Hill owner Pamela Pier is retiring after 37 years, with the store closing at the end of November as we first reported here. Veselka plans to expand into the adjacent Dinosaur Hill space in the future.
Current Dinosuar Hill employee Karen McDermott and her husband, Jason McGroarty, are running the the March Hare — with Pier on board as consultant.
Per the shop's Instagram account, they will carry "Puppets, Marionettes, Board Games, Puzzles, Stuffed Toys and More!"
The March Hare is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. And the phone: (646) 422-7747

Steven shared some photos from inside the shop today...
Congratulations, looks Great! But Pam at Dinosaur Hill has 1 more week before she closes and a sweet sale. Even thou I've been buying gifts since late Summer, I still can't seem to want to let the Dinosaur Hill go, just yet, so I went a couple more times this week and will go again. It's not the sale,it's the place that I Love so much and Pam and her staff.
ReplyDeleteBut I will visit the March Hare eventually. So glad you found a nice spot on 9th st.
Very nice photographs by Steven!

Last time I was in there, I remarked, "I feel like I'm visiting a shrine!"
Yes Scuba Diva I totally agree! And I love when Pam plays Classical music. She put up her last Turkey Dinner feast on the window, it brought a big smile to my face!
ReplyDeleteWAVING FOR ATTENTION! Hey, GRIEVE - it's now exactly a YEAR since The March Hare opened, AND it's been just about a month since Karen McDermott had her cancer surgery.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to suggest that maybe you could run a new post (or update the recent story you ran) about Karen, and let people know how she's doing (if she doesn't mind).
Bringing people's attention to this might help the shop do more business over the holiday shopping season, and if it resulted in some more support for her gofundme, that would be nice, too.
We NEED shops like The March Hare (and people like Karen & her husband) in this community! If people will shop small, shop local, that would help keep the East Village special in the best possible way.
I don't know Karen personally, but I know that The March Hare is a charming & wonderful store!
