The news coincided with New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announcing that his state's restaurants would also increase to 50 percent.
NYC and New Jersey restaurants are currently operating at 35 percent capacity ... while the rest of New York State is operating at 50 percent capacity (soon to be 75 percent on March 19).
And via the news advisory...
"In New York State, our decisions are based on science and data and we are encouraged by the continued decline in infection and hospitalization rates," Cuomo said in a statement. "We will continue to follow the science and react accordingly. If we keep the infections down and vaccinations up, we will continue to stay ahead in the footrace against this invisible enemy and reach the light at the end of the tunnel together."Several East Village bars and restaurants have previously said that they'd reopen when the capacity hit 50 percent ... including Little Poland on Second Avenue. The diner teased this out yesterday on Instagram...
Best joke I have heard: If King Cuomo is accused by four more women, we will have indoor dining at 100 percent by April.
ReplyDeleteYay...huff...cough...hrrr...wheeze...
ReplyDelete(Can't talk after turning happy handsprings)
But seriously - YAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!
It's Emperor Cuomo now.
ReplyDeleteI wish for everyone's sake they would wait another couple months until more people are vaccinated. There are people eligible for vaccines now who don't have appointments for well in April and May. There are some restaurants that aren't doing the indoor dining now even though they can because they know it isn't truly safe for their employees or their customers.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a year, time to get back to normal, or as close as we can at this point as we all get vaccinated.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 10:47. If the science says 50%, then let it be 50%.
ReplyDeleteThe science/CDC doesn’t say it is safe for indoor dining yet. The state is making this decision against the advice of health experts. It isn’t just New York. It is happening everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThese 'experts' never lost a weeks pay. Lockdowns come from a place of privilege. They are racist, classist, and elitist. These people are impacted the least. People saying we should stay home don't care because they are getting paid and they don't have school age kids or their kids go to private schools that stayed open for in school instruction.
DeleteI lost my job but the lockdowns saved thousands of lives. I am suffering financially and wish there was more help but that doesn’t negate that there needed to be lockdowns. I have also lost people to covid. I am sorry if you have kids who can’t go to school. I know that is a burden on parents and hard for children. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. We will make it if we get the vaccine to more people before we go back to normal.
DeleteLITTLE POLAND! How we've missed you, can't wait to get some pierogis and kielbasa SOON!
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Hopefully more bars and restaurants can return to some normalcy and their employees can see their earnings tick back up!
ReplyDelete2:10..'These experts are racist'? How so?
ReplyDeleteThese decisions impact black and brown public school kids and their working class parents. These parents have to keep going to work on the subway and somehow home school their kids. The pro lockdown crowd is working at home and ordering deliveries. Look at the numbers if people who live in Queens versus the upper east side. Easy to be pro lockdown when your private school is open, you work from home and get paid, when you have a large apt to shelter in place in. When you have multi generations under one roof and they cant possibly stay 6 ft apart it makes a difference. Especially when they have to work every day.

ReplyDelete2:10 is just some trumpist troll. You can tell by their rediculously immature pose of the good communist, no need to think, phrasology.
Just starve them out.
2:10 is just another conservative trying to use progressive rhetoric who doesn't understand it.
ReplyDeleteThere needs to be ongoing financial support for people and businesses as we struggle through the end of this. Risking a surge in the virus when we're so near the end is not wise. I'm vaccinated now, but I don't find the thought of potentially passing on the virus to some unvaccinated server who can't afford to stay home very appealing as an entertainment prospect. I'm going to wait a little longer.
(But, God, I can't wait!)
Hopefully this will help more venues survive as we’re all finally vaccinated and nicer weather comes back.
ReplyDeleteRE: 1:16 "The science/CDC doesn’t say it is safe for indoor dining yet"
ReplyDeleteCDC also recommends that sexually active women, who can get pregnant, should never drink.
"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defended a recommendation that sexually active women refrain from drinking alcohol if they are not using birth control after it spurred a strong backlash, with many women saying they considered the suggestion insulting, severe and impractical."

Sweet I'm on birth control! Can drink according to cdc!
