Per Stacie Joy: "At Rite Aid today: crew reports new lettering and signage (to reflect new colors, font, etc.) should be up next week. They told me they have no plans to close, that all Rite Aids are being rebranded."

ReplyDeleteThey might be replacing the sign with their newer, even more hollow rebranded logo. Google "Rite Aid new logo".

ReplyDeleteRite Aid is always out of at least one of the things I am looking for. I remember years ago when this location was a supermarket. I wish it would revert to a place to buy food. Our food market choices are limited. With CVS and Walgreens on every corner this space would better serve the neighborhood as a grocery store.
ReplyDeleteIs there a problem with walking one block east to key food? And beyond that,if I remember correctly I believe that was a gristedes which has a pretty lousy reputation
DeleteIt was not a Gristedes, nor anything even remotely like that. It was something very basic and not very good called called Met. Key Foods is now overpriced, and it doesn't have fresh fish, nor a good selection of meats. The produce is not good. I go there for the Latin American staples from my country, or an approximation, and for that it is good enough. Those of us who live West of First ave need something better than Key foods for basic staples, that isn't fancy and expensive like Whole Foods

ReplyDeleteIrronic, as there has actually (at long last) been a marked decrease in the number of drugstore chain locations in this neighborhood, and an actual increase in the number of grocery store outlets in this neghborhood.
I wonder where you live?
I believe prior to Rite-Aid coming in it was a SLOAN'S supermarket. A rather dumpy store. On par with the old Met (Now Metropolitan NY??) on 2 Ave.
ReplyDeleteMet does its job and it doesn't need to be pretty for the amazon crowd...NYU's property management company is hassling Met again - and the never ending scaffolding there is not an accident.
ReplyDeleteIt was Red Apple! Not Met and most definitely not Sloan's... Sorry..... And I live 2 blocks from Rite Aid (west of 1st Ave), and no we do not have a good selection of grocery stores. Whole Foods Bowery is the worst Whole Foods in NYC. Key Foods has gotten better over the years but is is nowhere near as good as Morton Williams near Washington Square Park, but way to far for me. And Morton Williams is cheaper than Key Foods.
