Fade to black at The Pyramid Club
Late this afternoon, workers removed The Pyramid Club sign outside the now-permanently-shuttered venue at 101 Avenue A... an anonymous reader sent in the top photo... while @drewallen shared the one below...
... and a little later...
As EVG contributor Stacie Joy exclusively reported yesterday, the iconic 40-plus-year-old club between Sixth Street and Seventh Street will not be reopening after the year-long state-mandated PAUSE.

I think I’m going to go and cry...
ReplyDeleteI do hope that sign was kept for posterity.
ReplyDeleteWHOA!!! That was fast!!! 😢
ReplyDeleteI wish we all could have partied there one last time before they closed. So many wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteYou can't party anymore in NYC . The pro lockdown crowd will make sure of that. Wear a mask, get a temp check, stay seated at a table. Sounds great. SMH.
DeleteNot sure what the owners are thinking so I don't want to speculate why they don't want to continue with the Pyramid as a bar/music venue. Maybe getting older, along with the day to day grind of operating a business in NYC, is just too much of a hassle. On the other hand it's a landmarked building so it won't be easy to make any dramatic changes. Possibly they will even sell to someone who will want to open a new place that showcases young musicians of all types. A new wave of young creativity would be the optimal outcome in my view.
ReplyDeleteJust as sad as Good Friday - this is just bad for our hood
ReplyDeleteSorry to see it go the Pyramid Club was a major staple of the LES and existed back before all the gentrification which changed the neighborhood. Now what will go in that space? Another Bubble Gum Tea or Ramen noodle place probably very sad.
ReplyDeleteIt would be truly phenomenal if new owners just reinstituted Pyramid, under a new name if necessary or with a new angle to it (music bar during the weekdays and dancing Thurs-Sat?).
ReplyDeleteThat's an incredible long shot, but I'm hoping it turns out this way. Much better than it becoming a stupid chain store.
