Per TRD:
The transaction was a joint negotiation among Transformco, Vornado and the new tenant, sources said. The regional grocer that will be taking over the NoHo location has not been disclosed. However, those sources said the new tenant will be a "first-class regional grocer."
A few EVG readers already have the space fitted for a Wegmans, which opened its first NYC space in October 2019 on Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn's Admiral's Row development.
We shall see...

Wegmans is an absolutely amazing store. I would love them to move in this space.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t see much difference between Wegmans and Fairway
DeleteA bigger Trader Joe's? One can dream.
ReplyDeleteAccording to wegmans website, it is not listed as a future store locations listing.
ReplyDeleteWelcome news, esp. considering if could have been needlessly rented to FB, a most-hated company, in my opinion. We could use a fresh food grocer in that location. K-mart never fully utilized all that space. Also: Thanks for the giggle, Grieve, for all the hysterical Twitter lamentations and odes to the BIG K.

ReplyDeleteHard to imagine.
The TJs at Grand St. is one of the largest sq ft. ones in existence. Though may be beat by the upcoming store opening in Harlem 2023.
Good some competition for my dollar. Over priced Whole Foods hopefully is concerned. I prefer Wegmans.
ReplyDeleteToo many TJ's already. Lets get something new and vibrant in there.
ReplyDeleteRe Anonymous referring to the Wegmans website- The Real Deal article noted the grocer's identity has yet to be revealed- Wegmans wants to come in with a big bang.
ReplyDeleteA Wegmans would go a long way in helping to revitalize the immediate area. The retail vacancy must be around 75-80%. This would be a huge draw.
ReplyDeleteI remember when kmart opened and it was deemed as bad as Iggy Pop leaving nyc. Almost…
ReplyDeleteLove wegmans that a great idea
ReplyDeleteI still think a large tri-level bubble tea shop would be wildly successful, especially if it had lots of shiny and glimmering christmas lights. The kidults LOVE their glittering christmas lights.
ReplyDeleteGiven that everyone around here is from Upstate these days, it’s probably going to be a Price
ReplyDeleteChopper.
Please let it be a Wegmans!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm from upstate, and I love me some Wegman's!
ReplyDeleteWe need a Home Depot so Ace isn't our only choice for paint, construction and home products considering their habit of overpricing.
ReplyDeleteWeed World cafe!

ReplyDeleteWegman's would totally kill the New Yorker Market (AKA Met Food) which is struggling and Ace Hardware (AKA Brickmans). Let's support our local markets!
ReplyDeleteExactly how would Wegman's "kill ...Ace Hardware (aka Brickmans)? They don't sell hardware.
DeleteWe live in the the age of Amazon so whatever they put in there or not put in there won’t change things much.
ReplyDeleteI posted this in the original thread but Wegmans was 100% looking at the space a few months ago - this came from an employee, so we shall see but considering the expediency of the departure of Kmart, the comment from this employee, and the description of the store as 'regional' all seem to point to Wegmans. There is also a total gap to fill in this area - Whole Foods and Traders are niche stores and the Food Emporium in Union Square just closed.
ReplyDeleteIF Wegmans, they sure as hell better incentivize customers NOT to bring cars to this location. Even half the usual amount car volume a Wegmans creates would choke lower Manhattan to near death.
ReplyDelete"first-class regional grocer"
ReplyDeletewell, at least Kmart was for every class
I don't know if I've ever been to a Wegmans but everyone seems to like it. That's not saying much, though. Everyone seems to like Trader Joe's and it's so astonishingly bad, with the worst produce, that the only explanation is that everyone is either brainwashed or an NYU student. Whole Foods is too expensive but at least good quality. Where does Wegmans fit in?
