NYPD IDs person of interest in 1st Avenue homicide

The @NYPDnews account today released these images of a person of interest wanted for questioning in connection to the homicide of a 37-year-old man found on First Avenue early last Wednesday morning...
According to published reports, 37-year-old Marvin Bellamy, who lived in the Frederick Douglass Houses on the Upper West Side, was found with a puncture wound to his chest on First Avenue near the McDonald's between Sixth Street and Seventh Street. He reportedly died later at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.

Per amNY this morning:
A week into the ongoing investigation, police did not disclose a possible motive for the stabbing, or the circumstances leading up to the deadly attack.
Police sources also did not known of any possible connection between Bellamy and the person of interest, whose image was captured by a nearby security camera on the day of the incident.

This makes two unsolved murders on First Avenue in the past six weeks, the other one was on 26th St and 1st Avenue in early June. Akeem White was walking down the block when another man asked him “Are you looking at me?” and shot him in the head. The police have yet to release any photos of a suspect, and there has not been any update on that case. This latest case on 6th Street looks like a stabbing, but for some reason it took almost a week for the police to release the suspect’s photo. I would prefer that the police release the suspect’s photo or description as soon as possible after a murder, as we now have two people who committed murder on First Avenue who are still on the loose. Just put the photos on Twitter, it’s users can track down anyone within a few minutes,

If not everyone is aware, if you get into trouble trying getting yourself near one of those LinkNYC kiosks, on the two flat sides they have cameras. Not the best solution for trouble but if something happens there will be a video of the situation for the cops to proceed.

@2:39pm: Thank you for the reminder; I tend to forget about those cameras. Let's hope people don't need them, but with what's been going on lately, it's something we should be aware of.

you can also call 911 from the kiosks.

Has anyone ever seen any video or still images released from any of these pervasive kiosks?

I had no idea there are cameras attached to those kiosks. Thank you for the helpful tips.

If you call 911 from one of these they can collect audio and video. These cameras are high def and much better than the typical low end garbage you see from stores that buy cheap cameras because the insurance requires them. There are some benefits to these kiosks.

They try to catch the person before releasing a pic as the perp will disappear. People get stupid and sloppy and assume they got away with it if it's not on the news or social media. They didn't catch this guy so they put this out and hope for a tip.

A man is caught trying to destroy the "pervasive" kiosk and it appears the filming is done at the top pointing down and the video is clear and in color.

My sympathy to the victims family.

This type of crime, apparently unprovoked conflict could be related to the perpetrators mental health brought on or worsened by the pandemic. Not saying this makes any of us safer but stay alert when you pass someone who is sending out a vibe. Yes as humans we have the ability to recognize danger if we just pay more attention to our surroundings.
