Saturday's parting shot

A Ferrari gets a ticket on Seventh Street at Second Avenue... and the traffic enforcement agent told EVG contributor Derek Berg that this was his first time ticketing a Ferrari...

Parking is free in NYC because not everybody can afford to park in a garage

Not always free. Lots of (expensive) meter parking on avenues and parts of side streets.

It’s one of the few parts (trafic and tLc) of nyc government that brings in substantial revenue. Taxing the rich is the other one So in this picture you see both.

Red Ferrari = "only the little people pay taxes" (Leona Helmsley). It'll disappear & never be paid.

"Parking is free in NYC because not everybody can afford to park in a garage "

This statement is incorrect. You pay on the street from I think 9 am to 8 pm. Anyone may park if they pay.

Parking is social control. Giving a percent of public owned parking spaces first to Citibank and now to the wall street restaurants makes sure individuals cannot enter the City. They want you registering your presence through uber or public trans.

Funny how the comments on this parking ticketing thread, none yet mention the Twitter feed  @placardabuse which shows endless abuse by NYPD, FDNY, many other city, state and federal agencies, parking for free everywhere at no standing zones, fire hydrants, bus and bike lanes, sidewalks, etc., with expired inspection tags, false registrations, altered license plates to fool speed cameras (and in the future, any congestion pricing cameras), etc. and not a ticket in sight.  That's the real NYC ticket enforcement story here, not the once in a decade ticketing of a Ferrari.

No front license plate=out of state...owner may not need to pay depending on where it is registered

M14A-SBS downtown bus stop on Ave A & 5th st ALWAYS has cars parked at the stop. It’s always a mess trying to get in/off in the bike lane

@abon 12:25am: Metered spots are not in effect evenings and nights and all day Sunday

Who needs parking spots when we can have a city filled with shanty town style bar and restaurant sheds. The state fills its coffers from the tax collected for alcohol sales and De Blasio finally gets to turn every inch of our and other neighborhoods into a 24/7 night-life district. If you are elderly forget any hope of a bit of peace, if you are raising a family better sound proof your kids bedrooms or head to the burbs and work from home for the rest of your life. 20 somethings and Air BNB will love you apartment.

The car clearly bears NYS registration and inspection decals.

@12:25 - facts have never stopped anyone from commenting here. I swear you could post a photo of bunnies and sure enough there's a "outdoor dining is horrible" or "tax money off of alcohol sales" comment waiting in the wings.
