A Chuck Close tribute on Bond Street

Chuck Close died last month at age 81

And recently, the artist Scott VanderVoort paid tribute to the photorealist outside 42 Bond St. between the Bowery and Lafayette. (Close had a studio and residence nearby.)

EVG reader Garth shared these photos ... you get the 1967-68 Big Self-Portrait of Close while walking to the east...
... and a 2005 version of Close while heading west...
Here's a little clip to give you a better idea of the work...

VanderVoort previously created tributes here for President Obama after his eight years in the White House ... and after the deaths of Steve Jobs ... and David Bowie

This video explains more about how VanderVoort creates the art...

  1. Chuck Close was a misogynist and an abuser. Good riddance to bad company.

    1. Be serious. The actions he is accused of occurred when he was both a quadriplegic and suffering from dementia. At worst they were verbal comments made when his cognitive abilities were failing. Chuck set new standards in the art world and also freely shared his love for art with the younger generations. Chuck Close was an inspiration who unfortunately suffered the indignities that many of must face at the end of life.

    2. His pattern of exploitation was clearly repeated across accounts.

I certainly wouldn’t describe asking a college student “is this how you keep your pussy?” as “ freely sharing his love for art with the younger generations,” but maybe that’s just me.

It’s quite telling that you would defend him instead of believing the women he took advantage of.
